Gas dryer does not dry clothes

My Maytag Neptune Gas Dryer has stopped drying clothes properly. The sensor dry and timer functions do not work. The blower appears to be working (we can feel a gush of air coming out the exhaust) and the gas circuit also works - the dryer gets really warm.

maytag neptune gas dryer model MD5500. my dryer in sensor mode starts off at about 60 min. and stays idle when it reaches 17 min. of time left. clothes are still damp when the cycle is finished. Yesterday I had paused the cylce at 11 min. to take something out and when I opened the door I was overcome with a strong smell of gas. Needless to say that really freaked me out and now I am afraid to put the dryer back on!

Yesterday, it worked fine, this morning, not so much. No clogs in vent line, no kink in gas line.

I have a Maytag Brovos gas dryer that is drying fine but giving off a smoke smell so strong that you can't wear the clothes afterwards. I checked and the exhaust duct is clear.

My maytag neptune dryer is taking twice as long to dry cloths. i've had it 5 years & it's gas.

Clogged Vent
If your dryer seems to run forever, it could be because of a clogged vent or internal ductwork. Your dryer may have an automatic cycle that turns off the dryer when the clothes are dry. It does this with a special thermostat or moisture-sensing system.
Normally, this is what happens during an automatic cycle:
The thermostat tells the dryer to heat until the interior of the dryer reaches a pre-set temperature--say 135 degrees.
When the dryer reaches the pre-set temperature, the thermostat tells the timer to begin advancing. (If there's a moisture sensor, the timer advances only if the moisture content of the clothing is low enough.)
The timer advances until the interior cools, then the thermostat tells the timer to stop advancing, and tells the dryer to start heating again.
This cycle continues until the clothes are dry. But...if the vent is clogged, the dryer may never reach the proper operating temperature, so it doesn't send the signal to the timer and the dryer continues to run indefinitely, even if the clothes are completely dry. To fix the problem, clean the vent and/or internal ductwork.
Cycling thermostat
Although this isn't a common problem, one of the thermostats that controls the temperature in your dryer may break and cause the dryer to heat poorly. If so, you need to replace it. The thermostat is usually a small, round, black device mounted to an oblong steel plate. The plate is mounted to the internal ductwork . This thermostat usually has four wires going to it. Check the 2 terminals that are opposite each other and are the closer together of the 2. These 2 terminals should have continuity. If not replace the thermostat.

Maytag Neptune MDG 5500 AWQ heats sporatically

your dryer has a safety feature that it will not run or heat when the door is opened. It is so no gas fumes are exhauseted into your home. Once the safety is engaged, It will not allow the dryer to restart for a short while. It should clear itself after only a few minutes. Hope this helps, good luck.

Longer time to dry clothes

Remove the rear connecting vent and run a 45 minute timed dry load. If it works correctly repair the connecting vent and or blockage in the wall.
If this does not correct the problem make sure the glow bar is cycling at the gas valve and report back for further repair.

Maytag Neptune gas dryer sense dry time at 99, little or no heat

If this is a gas dryer, I'd suggest an inspection by the gas company or qualified technician. If the jets aren't firing correctly, you are wasting gas and possibly creating a hazard.

99 minutes

It sounds like you may need a new timer. Has water or anything gotten into the timer. This could be causing a short or faulty reading in it.
