Re: my remote control is broken. How do I watch DVD's
Hello Boye4522,
If you connect your Dvd player up via a scart lead directly to the back of your Tv when you turn on the DVD player this will send a voltage to the tv telling it to change to the input that your Dvd player is on.

First of all, is this the first time experiencing this problem? Second, which remote are you referring to that has the 'input button', the TV's or DVD?
You also make reference to an, 'input button, and then an, 'opton button'? What is the difference between them?
In my situation, my TV's remote is used to toggle back and forth between an external source (i.e, DVD or VHS players), and regular TV.
MY TV remote has a 'TV/VIDEO' button, which when pressed allows me to display either 'video-1, video-2, or back to watching TV programs. In my experience, it has always been either a 'source or TV/Video button located on the TV remote that controls all external sources being viewed on the TV.
Also, a simple thought, are the batteries starting to fail. I have noticed that pressing remote buttons and not having something occur right away could be the batteries.
Not sure if this is helpful at all, but according to this youtube video, this unit never had a remote. It uses a 9-pin game controller. Not sure if this is only for playing games, or if it's used for programming the unit as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crqMoog_Eiw&feature=youtu.be&t=44s
Looking at a closeup of the control buttons at the 36 second mark of the video, there does not appear to be any button that can be used as an "ok" button.
The back of the unit has a number of audio/video outputs, and 2 game ports.
The type of disk you put in the unit should determine whether it is recognized as a DVD or as a game disk.
As the author of the youtube video mentions, these were very inexpensive units (he got his for $30).
You may want to consider getting a major brand DVD player that includes a remote like the Sony DVP-SR210P which can be found on eBay for under $30, as well.
Harmony makes a really good universal remote that plugs into your computer. You enter the make/model # of your equipment and all (or most) of the equipments features are available on the remote. I use 1 remote for 7 components and it has an activity button that when pressed will turn on all components associated with that activity IE "Watch DVD" will turn on DVD player, T.V. and set it to proper channel or input and turn on the stereo and set it to the proper output.
I would check out the Harmony 510 remote control. It may be a little pricey but it is the best universal remote on the market for the money. It also allows you to control your DVD unit as well as your TV without the requirement of selecting which one.Harmony remotes are activity based in the you pick what you want to do such as “Watch TV”, “Watch DVD” , “Watch VCR” etc.. Then It turns the appropriate units on and then sets them to the correct input.Makes it real easy once set up.Another advantage is the IR codes are stored on line and constantly updated so new products and codes can be added. If your tv has input [rca connections] jacks, look at the original remote and use the input button. In some cases....pressing 00 on the remote will access an input. If you must a converter box...set your tv and the DVD player to channel 3.
If you have lost the remote, go to any electronics store and buy a universal one. I have programmed many generic remote controls, and they all work fine for adjusting the video inputs. Not all television sets allow their video inputs to be switched without the remote. Most likely you will have to buy a replacement.
