After installing WebUpdater once from the Garmin
website, perform all future software updates from your computer. Simply connect
your compatible Garmin device to your computer, then run WebUpdater from your
computer's "Start Menu" by selecting "Start",
"Programs", "Garmin", and finally "WebUpdater"
REMEMBER: It takes hours to
do a complete a map update.
Unless you bought the Lifetime maps you may have to pay for current maps.

You actually have to buy a cable to do that, it's a mini-USB to USB cable. It normally goes for a few bucks..here is a link for you.

There are other brands and lenghts but I think you get the idea now, right? Make sure that the mini connection matches the back of the Nuvi's connection, if you have an electronic store near your house take it with you and show the salesperson.
As for updating the unit itself, well you have to purchase the maps from Gamin. If you just bought it, you may qualify for a free map update when you register the unit. Click on the following link..

Register for an account, it's important that you do. Specially if you start purchasing maps from them, they save all that info for you so if your computer crashes you can just reinstall all your maps again using the codes they save for you. Then register your NUVI and see if you qualify...Good Luck!!

I just got an answer from Garmin Support Germany and they sent me an file which fixed the problem. Just download http://e-trex.info/fw/nuvi/2x5/nuvi205_085101000280en.rar
It contains a "Updater.exe" and a file called "085100010270.rgn".
Follow the following steps and you should have your nüvi back.
Firstly connect your broken nüvi. Then drag and drop the 085100010270.rgn on the updater.exe. Choose USB as a connection and it should put an old firmware back on your device.

I went to the web site. For a update there wasnt much of one. Its a firmware update. And you need to have the unit hooked to the computer. Mine automatally went to the site and got a list of things you could update, but in my case there was nothing to download. But the web site for the GPS has all of the answers
