Toshiba Satellite a60 password help?

Hello!
I'm not very computer savvy. I have recently aquired a toshiba satellite a60 laptop from a friend. He said that he couldn't figure out how to get into it and gave it to me. I also, cannot figure out how to get it to start. I press the power button and the Toshiba logo appears, but within about a second the screen goes black. In the top left corner it asks for a password. Can anyone help me with this?

    This is a Power on Password. This password is set by the owner to prevent unauthorized access to the laptop. You need to get this password from the person who set the password.

Forgetting your Windows administrator login password. With no way to get into the system, you can’t even perform basic maintenance, let alone a thorough tune-up. Formatting is always an option, but we consider that a last resort. (Plus, guess who’s going to have to help reinstall all the programs lost after a wipe?) But all hope is not lost. There are a few ways to actually retrieve a lost Windows account password. Read on, and we’ll show you the light.
====1st Method====
The first thing which you check if you forget login password. When we install Windows, it automatically creates an account “Administrator” and sets its password to blank. So if you have forget your user account password then try this:
Start system and when you see Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ctrl+alt+del keys twice and it’ll show Classic Login box. Now type “Administrator” (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from “Control Panel -> User Accounts”.
Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen.
====2nd Method====
1. Reboot your machine.
2. Press F8 before the Windows boot screen appears.
o Do not press F5 as used on the NT/9x series of Windows.
3. You will be be prompted with a boot options menu.
4. Select the Start Windows in Safe Mode option.
5. Click through several self-explanatory screens until your reach the familiar 'Welcome' screen.
6. Note that this welcome screen is limited to 256 colors and 640x480 resolution because the primary graphics will have been set to the Windows Safe Mode software VGA adapter. You will not be able to change this mode even in Display options, while Windows is running in Safe Mode.
7. Find the icon for the Administrator user. If the default settings of your system haven't been changed, there should be no password for this account.
o The Safe Mode Welcome screen might display some of the other users on your system.
8. Login as the admin.
9. Press Yes at the prompt asking if you would like to continue using Safe Mode.
10. Continue on to the User Settings control panel. Here you can change any of the other passwords for user on the machine. Make any changes you want.
11. Reboot your computer. As long as you don't press any keys (i.e. F8) during the boot-up the computer will startup normally.
12. Login as the user for which you set the password.
====3rd Method====
Windows XP and further versions also provide another method to recover forgotten password by using “Reset Disk”. If you created a Password Reset Disk in past, you can use that disk to reset the password. To know more about it, please visit following links:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305478
====4th method====
Comparatively, using windows password Recovery Tool utility is a reliable and convenient method for solving the password problem. Normally, the program can easily reset the password to “Blank” with no -reformatting or installation. Do all the job for you automatically. Unfortunately, it is not safe to use some free recovery tool to recover windows password. So here is the recommend recovery tool:windows password Recovery Tool 3.0 .

====5th method====
If it doesn't work above ,I hope that you have some hacker friends.

When a computer is powered up, the first thing that happens is the BIOS program takes control. (4MB size program for the Toshiba Satellite A60)
Then BIOS finds the devices connected to the computer, does a ram memory count, turns the processor on, and hands the computer over to the Operating System.
(Windows XP is one example of an O/S)

An owner has the option of not only setting up a password for Windows, but can also set up a password for BIOS.

You can delete the BIOS password, but need to take the laptop to a competent, Authorized Toshiba, computer repair shop for the Windows password. They will verify your receipt of purchase, and ask for identification. This is faxed to Toshiba, where they will authorize a master password, allowing a new password to be set.

Sound messed up? It's to Deter Thievery.
Instead of taking the laptop to an authorized Toshiba repair shop, you can just buy Windows XP, and install it yourself. Average cost is around $99 online.
(After BIOS password is reset to No password used)

To delete the BIOS password you remove the CMOS battery, and leave it out for 20 minutes. Press the Power On button also, and hold it in. (CMOS battery out) Hold it in for a count of Five seconds, let go. Do this Two more times. Then after the 20 minute wait, reinstall the CMOS battery.

The CMOS battery is also referred to as an RTC battery for a laptop. Real Time Clock.

It is in a plastic holder. The plastic is formed around the battery like a tight bag. Usually the color is Yellow for Toshiba's. It has two wires coming from it. The battery is a type of watch battery. Round, size of a nickle approximately, and 1/8th inch thick. Same kind used in a desktop computer. CR2032

Generally located under the Top Cover, left corner.
Hence the need for the Service Manual.

This link is to the Toshiba Satellite A60 Service Manual,

http://www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-laptop-service-manuals/#toc-toshiba

(Second Satellite heading down, A10, A20, A30, A40, etc. Left-click - Once on A60) This is a PDF file. After you click on it you may not see anything happening, for up to 30 seconds. It is downloading, be patient. This file is a little larger than 11MB's.

This is a disassembly guide for replacing the motherboard, (System Board) Has photos to help you along with the Service Manual above. (At the bottom of the each page you will see Page::1::Page::2::Page 3::, in white. You are on Page 1. Click on Page 2 to proceed to page 2, and so on)

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/disassemble-hp-compaq-8510p-8510w-notebook-pc/

(Scroll down a little)

BEFORE you start!

1.ALL electrical power sources MUST be removed!
AC adapter, (Charger), if plugged in, and Battery.

2.You should wear an anti-static device on your wrist, and have it connected to a good ground source.
(ESD wrist s-trap. Electro Static Discharge)

Your body carries Static electricity, and Static will kill a computer in a flash! You won't see it or feel it!
An ESD wrist s-trap is inexpensive. About $6.

3.Have a clean multi-compartment container for the screws. There are as many as 12 different sizes, and over 50 screws! Many look the same, but are Very different. Try to put the wrong screw in a threaded hole, or hardware component, and you'll damage it beyond usefulness, and the threaded hole.
(You can use a clean egg carton in a pinch. Label each egg holder for the area the screws came out of)

    My reasoning is, that if the laptop IS stolen, you won't be taking it to an authorized Toshiba repair shop, to get the Master password from Toshiba.
    1.There is a Fee involved.
    2.If it is stolen it will be on record. This = Not Good for the person who brought it in!
    3.If you obtained it from a Buddy, that buddy better have a receipt of purchase, and will be the one going with you. (Identification also)

    Two other things.
    1.Taking out that RTC battery is no job for a novice. Can be done with the info I provided, however. But requires dedication.
    Something I find lacking in a thief.

    2.Spending $99 for a new genuine copy of Windows.
    Again doesn't follow the Modus Operandi of a thief.

    Leads me to believe if a person is willing to go this far with a laptop that is almost 6 years old, it was probably purchased second hand somewhere, and isn't stolen.
    You can buy a Toshiba Satellite used for around $100 to $150.

    Even if you bypass the Power password, (BIOS), you're aren't going to bypass the Windows password. You just have a doorstop unless you buy, and install a new genuine copy of Windows XP.
    (Laptop won't run Vista)

If you lost windows password. I think the best solution is making a windows password recovery disk with the third part utility. The disk works perfectly to recover windows password to “Blank”.It is also useful for administrator password recovery, you can wrote it to an blank CD or USB flash drive to recover administrator password. Booting up and clearing a password takes a minute or two works like a charm.

The problem is that the lap top is probably
obtained in illegal way.
The password you are asked to type in is a BIOS password, and it has to be set by someone. It cannot be done by accident, because it isn't very easy to do it, but once it is done, it is very hard to break it because it starts before windows, and before BIOS even. There is a way, but I'm not quite sure is it OK to publish
