You'll need to open the case on your PC; locate the manufacturer name and model number of the motherboard and then use an online search engine by typing in <motherboard> (without the arrows) with the model number. You should be able to find a manual from third party sources or by going to the manufacturer's website to see if the manual is archived.
You can locate the MOBO information at either one of these locations:
- RAM slots
- CPU socket
- or between the PCI slots
MOBO model numbers are usually a collection of numbers and letters between 5 and 7 digits long.
If you have a problem located the model number and manufacturer:
Run the utility; depending on the speed of your processor, it could take seconds or about a minute to pull up the info. <Click> on the mainboard tab, it'll list the manufacturer's name and model number of the MOBO.
A third way to locate MOBO information, Open the <RUN> dialog box from the start menu or by pressing the windows icon key and the letter R simultaneously.
Type <MSinfo32> (without the arrows) and press <enter>
The BIOS ID will be displayed- sometimes manufacturer info and model number will be displayed.
If not, you will be able to determine the BIOS as being either AWARD or AMI (American Megatrends, Inc.); and from there, be able to decode the ID number to a specific manufacturer.
- AWARD: first five digits indicate the chipset & the following two digits identifies the manufacturer; you'll have to go online and search who that two digit manufacturer is.
- AMI: the MOBO manufacturer is Identified by the last four digits in the third group of numbers.
