I use HDMI cables for my blue ray DVD player, not sure if you do. If so, make sure surround sound is connected to your TV in the right jack. My surround system is old, so only uses RCA's (red, white, yellow). I plug mine into the audio out jacks (red, white) just below the HDMI 1 jack. Only the red and white are required for sound but also can use video (yellow) for higher quality. That is the main audio out. Plug into that and you should have all sound that is on your TV also sent to your surround system.
the yellow on an RCA setup is a video signal not audio, so just hook up the yellow to video 1 and red /white to audio 1 or whatever number it happens to be
just plug your satellite and dvd player in to your tv. and simply take an extra set of red, white, yellow wires and us use the red and white wires to connect fron your tv output to your surround sound system's input. now you should have surround sound for everything included local tv stations from your tv antenna
you need a Optical audio cable, run this from the back of your Sky HD box to the Surround sound. Not all Broadcast are transmitted in DD so press your i button on the sky remote and you will see this on the yellow bar above the program information if it is..
Might be worth running a set of White and Red audio cable from the HD box to the Surround sound as well that way you can just mute your telly and have the lot coming through the surround sound system.
You will need a DVD player with an optical output, as the sky engineer said. A Co-axial S/PDIF output could also work if your surround sound has that input, however not all units transmit surround encoded sound through the Co-Axial output. Only option really is to upgrade if that doesn't work
you need an optical cable which it's sort of mentioned in the manual, but because of the multitude of possible ways to connect the TV to the sound surround, I did not figure out either.
I got my optical cable at BestBuy for about $45.00
