How do I Initialize a Fujifilm XD Picture Card. I tried to download the pictures from my printer. The printer flashed error. I was able to download pictures from ax XD128MB card but not a XDM512MB. Also someone tried to download the pictures to a disk directly from the (card in the camera) camera. After that the card read CARD NOT INITIALIZED. Thank you

The error can be caused by:

1. The xD-Picture Card or internal memory is not formatted.

2. The xD-Picture Card contact area is soiled.

3. a camera fault

for 1.:

Format the xD-Picture Card or internal memory on the camera (p.130)
To format the internal memory or xD card goto format in the setup menu and chose the correct memory.

for 2.:

Wipe the contact area on the xD-Picture Card with a soft, dry cloth. It may be necessary to format the xD-Picture Card

(p.130).

If the message still appears, replace the xD-Picture Card

for 3.: You won't like this one:

Contact your FUJIFILM dealer.

Try formatting the memory card. If that doesn't work, try a different memory card. If that doesn't help, sadly, it's probably time to return the camera if it's still under warranty.

To initialize the new XD card, you go into the camera's setup menu and navigate to the format function. Format the card and you might be ready to go. If your new card has an "M" or an "H" preceeding the XD, your camera will need a firmware upgrade before it will recognize the card. use the "format" setting in the camera to initialize the card. it is in the "set-up" menu.

The manual gives the following under Explanation:

The xD-Picture Card contact area is soiled
The xD-Picture Card is damaged
The xD-Picture Card format is incorrect
Camera fault

The manual offers the following under Remedy:

Wipe the contact area on the xD-Picture Card with a soft dry cloth. It may be
necessary to format the xD-Picture card
If the error message is still displayed. replace the xD-Picture Card.
Contact your Fujifilm dealer.

If you have version 1.00, then you will need to upgrade to 1.22 in order for this camera to read an xd type M or H picture card. I believe this is your problem. Go to this link on Fujifilms site for specific info: http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital/download/a340/fupd.html

Put the camera into play or review mode then hit the ok/menu button on back and format the card. This will erase all of your photos so make sure you've backed them up or download them.

If your new xD card is an "H" or "M" type card, it is only compatable with the A340 following a firmware upgrade to the camera. http://www.fujifilm.ca/x3721.xml is a link to the software and steps you can take to perform the upgrade.

Try using a different Memory card and see if it reads it, if not you might need to replace the memory card reader.
