HTR-5890 receiver keeps shutting down

Yamaha HTR-5890 receiver keeps shutting down.
After it shuts down it will not turn back on until power to it is disconnected for some time. It seems to be random at when it shuts down--sometimes after four hours or sometimes after just two minutes. Under troubleshooting in the manual it said to check impedance setting and that doesn't seem to be the problem. Could it be that an internal cooling fan is malfunctioning which is causing the unit to shut itself down? (The temperature of the unit does not seem to be a factor-hot or cold it doesn't matter). The problem started about a week ago, going out only once or twice a day and now is going out once or twice an hour. Has anyone had similar problems and can help me figure this out?

For the past month i have been shopping for the perfect home theater system and have narrowed it down to a bose system,a sony system and a paramax p510...i have listened to all 3 systems and have found the paramax to be the better system not a cheaper system but seem more bang for my buck at 3200$,a very powerful tube amp and downfiring sub maxes out at 2000 watts...

I have a Yamaha NS HTR 6130 Receiver,it will power on and then it shuts down after 5 seconds of powering on and it will not power back on until i unplug the power cord and plug it back in?

5 seconds shut down: dc protection triggered. (DC outputted from speaker terminals.)Make sure +B and -B are equal first . The problem also comes from voltage amp circuit board including differential amp and constant current source but power transistors mounted are ok. Remember to download HTR 6130 service manual .

My yamaha htr-5640 receiver will turn on for a sec then a small click and then shuts down....no speakers hooked up....what is the deal?

Hi,

With the power off, try to disconnect every component and then power on the receiver. If it still shuts down, then it is an indication of an internal error and the unit needs to be serviced.

Page 25 discusses the minimum speaker impedance setting for expected lower-than-8-ohm loads. Running A AND B may present a load that is dangerously low. BTW: 6 is not a whole lot lower than 8.

Look at your speakers' impedance specs. Running them in parallel would present a much lower load than either pair alone.

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

You very well may have blown and amp or a speaker.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Eure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked

I have a yamaha htr 5890. I would like to hook up

You are probably connected to the pre-out jacks. These are not amplified. Connect them to the B speaker outputs(screw down connectors). If that won't work (and it should), you can connect to the "Presence" speaker connections(spring loaded connections).

The receiver is not turning on. Try all possible solutions ie;Power cord. What is cicurity protection and how do I check for that or correct?

Circuitry protection means the unit is overheating so a fuse blows and shuts down the power to save the electrical components.  You need to find the fuse and replace it.

Yamaha HTR-6130 Receiver will not stay on! Shuts

One last try with everything disconnected!
Other than that I suspect internal surge damage.

HTR-6130 will not turn on

Remove all speakers from the receiver and try powering it up again. If it still shuts down odds are it needs repair of one of the output channels.
