The camera will not snap a picture. I have charged the batteries, so I know that is not it and It has a CHA in the lower right corner of the control panel.

I had the same exact problem. I did some research on this issue. Apparently The D50 will not work with a memory card above 2gb. I swapped my 4gb to the 2gb and solved the issue. Good luck.

Nikon D50 Digital Camera. I cannot take a picture, the letters CHA are flashing on the screen.

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

If that doesn't do it, try a different card.

What does ''CHA'' mean on my Nikon D50 I can't seem to take any photo's

You haven't provided enough details to be sure of the problem, but I suspect you have either bought a new memory card that is either the wrong type or too large for that camera. If it is still the original memory card that you first used with your camera, try reformating the card.

Hi I have just 4GB SDHC memory card in my D50 and it shows''CHA'' in the brackets for the number of shots. I have tried formatting it from the camera, but this doesn't make any difference. Is it possible...

Hi, I am not an expert. But I just had the same problem. Far as I can tell the D50 does not support SDHC, it was made before the SDHC technology came out. Pentax offers an upgrade to support it for their cameras, so perhaps Nikon will too, though I haven't found anything on it yet. My own solution was to pull my 2GB card out of my phone, put it in its adapter and stick it in my camera, works great. I put an older smaller card into my phone, now all my things are happy. This likely won't work for most people, but worked for me. If I see something about upgrading the camera I will put it on here.

D50 cannot use a 4gb card??? I use 1gb, 2 gb and no issues, now bought a 4gb card and get a CHA indicator on camera and will not shoot pictures. Can this camera be programed to accept a 4gb or larger...

No, the D50 will not (as you've discovered) accept an SDHC memory card (anything bigger than 2gb is SDHC). I haven't found a firmware upgrade for the D50 to rectify this issue, either. I own a D50 also, and love it, but bigger cards would be nice.

Memory not working in my D50.

The D50 will only accept up to a 2gb SD card. Cards of 4gb and larger are a newer type of SD card, known as SDHC (secure digital high capacity). At the time the D50 was made, SDHC cards weren't on the market. In short, if it is larger than 2gb it won't work. There's also no upgrade that I've found to handle SDHC cards in the D50, either. I love my D50, except for the card limitation.

Nikon D100

that means that there is something wrong with your memory card. that or its too big. i got a 4gb memory card last month and it was too big. i think the biggest size you can get is 2gb.
