Sirius sportster and dock

The antenna pin on the dock has broken off and is imbedded in the receiver unit. Does anyone know of repair facilities? Sirius says I'm SOL and have to buy a new unit.

If you bought it within a year, it should be under OEM warranty. If it has been longer than a year, but shorter than two years, and you bought it with Visa, MC, or American Express, you probably qualify for extended warranty protection from your credit card company.

I have a similar issue.
Assuming by '.010' you were referring to the thickness/gauge, what was the length of the wire that broke off and how did you affix the repair piece to the antenna socket?

My sportster 5 satellite radio is not getting signal

Is it "Aquiring Signal" or "Antenna Not Detected"? It could be the antenna, the dock, or the radio itself. For whatever reason, the Sportster 5 seems more fragile in the dock connections. TSS Radio has a repair guy who can fix this issue. You can reach him via email at [email protected]

The dispaley states "aquiring antenna" but never finds it,can this be fixed?

Yes. However, it depends on what is causing the acquiring signal message. It could be that you just have to replace the dock or antenna. But it could also mean the unit is going bad, in which case it would need to be repaired. www.tss-radio.com has a repair guy, though with that unit being discontinued for as long as it has, he may not have parts. You may have to search around for a replacement on amazon or ebay.

It tells me there is no antenna not detected

Antenna not detected could be caused by one of three things: The antenna, the docking station, or the receiver. If you have other equipment to troubleshoot, you can narrow down what is causing your issue and replace it. tss-radio.com is a good source for parts and trouble shooting ;)

Get a new dock if you think its the dock. If that doesn't fix it, then your dock connector has a broken solder joint from years of wear and tear. It's common, and a very easy repair. Just resolder the connector to the board.

Sirius Sportster 5 won't power up.

Check the fuse in the power to the dock. They blow out all the time.

ACQUIRING SIGNAL

I had the problem of "acquiring signal" after years of working. The fix is simple. The connectors on the base unit that plug into the sportster, and the antenna connector on the rear of the base get slightly oxidized. Buy radio shack electronic contact cleaner (in a can) and spray a very small amount on the male connectors (both the antenna plug and the male to female connector that is in the dock itself. Plug the antenna in and out several times and swirl it. Place the unit into the dock and remove it several times. You will likely find the signal problem is solved. You usually dont need a new antenna, but simply a clean set of contacts. Sat signals are very very suseptible to the slightest impacts. Good luck!

"no antenna" message

it could be the wire that connects from the actual antenna and the radio. Even if it is new it might just be wrong from the factory.

Broken Sportster 4

I'm afraid those things are throw away items. They cost more to repair than they cost to get a new one.

You can get a new dock and remove the piece off the Sportster yourself.

Sirius sportster sp-tk1, always displays "acquiring signal"

Sirius does not stand behind their products, There is no out of warranty repair for their radios,  and they do not offer sites for repair. Seems  like this is a definite problem with this model. Their solution is to buy a new radio,(with all the new-docking,boombox etc) accessories. also they charge $75.00 to change to the new radio.I liked my sportster 1 because of the FM modulator. It just had to be centrally located and all the radios in my home picked it up(no docking) the new radios require $50.00 docking stations for each stereo location and radio location, unless you bring a boombox everywhere, and the sound isn't the same.    I feel there should be a class action lawsuit against Sirius for these reasons and I might look into it. What do all you think?

SIRUIUS SPORTSTER

Satellite radio antennas do tend to fail sometimes. In the early days of Sirius/XM they were made a lot better, but now I've had problems with them a lot more frequently. If the antenna is plugged in securely and it still shows the 'antenna' error code, you most likely need to replace your antenna. It is possible that something else along the antenna signal path is causing your problem - Sometimes the antenna connections in the dock or the receiver itself can cause the issue, but most likely it is the antenna.
