Formatting your MuVo will just erase all the songs. It won't change the MuVo's firmware, and it won't change the Creative software installed on your computer.
My MuVo was having problems until I installed the latest firmware.
The last firmware release was in August 2006. If you haven't updated the
player's firmware since then, try downloading it and installing Creative MuVo V200 Firmware 1.13.03.
Usually MP3 Players are to be formatted with the FAT32 File System. This can be easily done on Windows. Simply connect the Mp3 Player to your computer via the USB. Then Windows should be able to detect it just fine. Go to My Computer and right clock on the new device (that is the MP3 Player) and select "Format". Format as FAT32 and try again.
PS: You may want to backup all data (if that is possible) before you attempt this Format thing.
