I get the same result with the battery in or out except the power light for the battery is off when the battery is not in of course. The RAM is nonremovable.

  • dcjerome Nov 13, 2009

I do not mean to seem obstinate but there is 512 onboard memory and one open memory slot to which you are alluding.

Another question would be good the onboard RAM be bad?

  • dcjerome Nov 13, 2009

The power adapter appears to be intact and wiggling it does not change anything.

If the onboard memory is bad if I purchase some additional memory would it bypass the problem?

Besides the motherboard could the CPU be bad?

Hi,

Take out the battery and try booting the machine on AC power only. If the machine boots up then let the operating system load up, the shut it down. Remove the AC jack and put the battery back in again, then power it up.

If it boots all is well if it doesn't then there could be a problem with the battery.

If the laptop won't start on AC power, what you could do is remove the system memory, clean the brass pins and the slots and then re-seat them/it.

Then try to turn the machine on.

Good luck.

    Hi,

The memory is removable. It is located underneath the laptop behind the WiFi/Memory bay cover behind the battery.
All you have to do is unscrew the cover.
The memory looks like this >>>>>>

    Hi,

Yes it could be the on-board memory.
Try checking the power adapter on the laptop. Plug in the power jack and wiggle it to see if there is any play. If there is then the adapter maybe faulty and needs to be replaced.

If it's not loose then you are looking at a possible failure of the motherboard itself.

    Hi,

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. I meant does the power adapter feel loose inside the socket?
Adding more memory in the spare memory slot won't make any difference as the on-board memory will interfere with the operations.
Being a computer technician there is one more thing i would check out before i resign my self to serious internal failure. that is to clear the CMOS.

I cannot remember exactly where this is but what your looking for is a jumper called j1 on the underside of the motherboard. The jumper is usually under the WiFi cover (remove WiFi card) or the memory slot. Sometimes they are coverd with Mylar (black or clear plastic) so you may have to peel it back.

When you find the j1 jumper get a flat headed screwdriver and short it. the best way to do it is with no power connected at all Including the battery, hold the screwdriver in the short position and press the on button.

You can always do it with the battery in as well.

    Good luck.
