The program that you are using to print the graphic will have an option of print in File. In print you must set to print b&w. Then only will the printer print pure b&w. Regarding not printing straight, the rollers that pull the sheet are mot mashing correctly. Firstly clean then with a moist soft cloth and then print again after the rollers have dried up.

Just go to printer's properties and select color ---> Color options---> Print in Grayscale ------>Select Black print Cartridge only then I think your problem is solved. If it not fulfill your desire then you need to change your cartridge.

Photographs always come into photoshop at 72dpi. how do I increase this so photographs come in at 300dpi?

Forget 72dpi. Photoshop opens the picture in 100%.
1 pixel on the monitor is one pixel from the camera.
300dpi is only relevant when making prints, where 300dpi is the highest quality you can get from a lab.
The smaller the print, the more dots you get per inch.

Trying to print an photographic e-mail,

Unplug printer, uninstall HP printer software, restart, reinstall software, when it asks-plug back in and turn printer back on. If it will print other pictures, the problem may be the location of what you are trying to print(try saving as jpg to desktop and try from there). Firewall and anti-virus programs can cause problems too, you can check for known compatibility issues at hp support.
Usually the un & re install will fix it.

Cant print in colour

Not sure if you are using XP or Vista. I'm speaking from Vista but XP should apply, too.

1. You could have the 'Print in Grayscale' box checked. It is under Printing preferences > Color.
2. Your color cartridge may be empty. Print a test page to make sure.
3. Make sure print quality is Normal or Best.
4. There is a "Print all text as Black" in the Advanced tab. Make sure it is Disabled.

Epson R265 printing colours incorrectly

For the black and white issue, check the settings and make sure that it isn't set on "sepia". As for the color issue, it is quite possible that you are out of ink. Printers may use more of one color than another depending on what you're printing. Change your color cartridge.
