Not able to turn off Progressive scan feature-sony dvp nc85h

Hi,

I am not able to turn off the progressive scan feature on my sony dvp nc 85h. When i press the progressive scan on the player( no progressive scan button on remote) it only switches between P.Auto and P.Video but it's not switching to Normal( Interlace) mode and as a result picuture on my tv splits into two. Tried holding the stop button on the player and on the remote for 5 seconds but it didn't worked.

Please help me out to turn off the progressive scan feature.

Many thanks,
Raj

    Hey Brian,

I removed all the component video connections and connected the dvd player to the receiver normally through dvd player->line out->(dvd in ->receiver-> monitor out)->TV monitor. Still the progressive scan feature on but the video is displaying normally now. Everything is alright except could not turn off progressive scan feature.

Thanks for all your help, you saved my life ...and let me know if you have any suggestions to turn off progressive scan.

    Thanks,

I can't get my SLV-D300P to work it seems like every button I push gets me a blue blinking progressive light. It wont eject, play or respond in anyway. I do not see in the manual how to reset factory setting or turn off progressive. Thanks for any help.

If it works like my sony RDR-GX315 just press the pause button on the player itself and hold for 5 seconds.

Are you pressing the Progressive Scan button on the front of the Player? You need to look at the BACK of the Player. There is a manual switch just below the words "LINE OUT". This needs to be moved to the left where it says "Normal"

Try this please!

Did this work for you Raj?

  • Anonymous Jan 09, 2008

Thank you, please rate my help as FIXED'YA if it was a success!

If not, let me know, I will help you find the answer!

OK, the manual I was accessing for you originally was incorrectly listed. I have found the correct model for you. My apologies.

Are you using an HDMI cable? This will not allow your Progressive Function button to switch from P AUTO or P VIDEO. If you are using an HDMI cable, please disconnect it, and then try to push the Progressive button to change it to the proper NORMAL setting. You should be able to then reconnect it.

If not HDMI on your setup, please describe your setup (video and audio cables used).

Please let me know if this solution helps!

  • Anonymous Jan 09, 2008

If you are disconnecting your HDMI, be sure to disconnect it from the back of the Sony DVD player, not just the TV. Thanks

  • Anonymous Jan 09, 2008

I will suggest two more options:

The first is to disconnect the power cord of the DVD player. Leave it unplugged for a few minutes. Meanwhile, please disconnect the Progressive cables from the back of the DVD player. Plug in the DVD player, then try to push the Progressive button to change it to the proper NORMAL setting.

If this does not work, please try to RESET the settings of the DVD as described on page 64 of the manual.

Let me know what happens next.

One other thing to try, is to see what the video looks like if you hook progressive cables directly to TV, and bypass the AV receiver.

  • Anonymous Jan 09, 2008

Hi, sorry Component video cables (Progressive)

  • Anonymous Jan 10, 2008

I do not understand why the button won't work, unless the unit thinks that the HDMI port is being used. Then it won't allow the button to be used for anything besides the 2 progressive settings. You could try looking at the HDMI input jack at the back of the unit to see if there is anything obvious, however I really don't think that you will see anything.

If it were me, I would want the higher quality signal, so I would try to bypass the AV receiver for the Video signal from now on!

If you feel that I was helpful, you could change my rating to FIXYA to help my rating, or you can leave it alone--either way I was glad to help!

I can't turn off the Progressive Scan feature on my Sony DVP-NC85H. I tried pressing 3, 6, and 9 while the unit was off but had no success. Apparently I can't use the HDMI connection unless the Progressive...

When your player is connected thru HDMI cable it should automatically detect what your TV's display is capable of. I am assuming that you have the DVD player connected to a HD television. There should be a progressive scan button on the front of the player. But I don't think the button will work when it is connected to HDMI. How do you have the player connected? Is it directly to the TV or does it go thru a switch or a reciever then to the TV? If it is connected this way then that can be the problem. There is a signal that needs to make it to the TV and these devices can block the signal. So verify that it is connected directly to the TV and that the HDMI cable is working. If that is ok then connect another connection to the TV along with the HDMI cable also hooked up. Then change your TV's input selection to that connection. You should be able to get to the dvd menu and set the HDMI output from auto to a format that your TV will accept. Then go back to the HDMI input and see if you have a picture. Let me know if that helps.

My sony portable dvd player stopped working. The

If the DVD is connected to the TV properly using the yellow, white & red AV cable and the TV is switched to AV and there is still no picture, plug the yellow lead from the back of the DVD player into the green socket. If you see a black and white picture now the DVD output is on Progressive Scan mode. See user manual to turn off Progressive Scan mode.

Need to turn OFF progressive scan on Sony DVD DVP-NS57P

With the remote: While in STOP mode, press the DISPLAY button. Use up/down buttons to select SETUP. Press Enter. Use up/down buttons to select CUSTOM.Press Enter. Use up/down buttons to select SCREEN SETUP. Press Enter. Use up/down buttons to select PROGRESSIVE. Press Enter. The manual is a bit indistinct after this, but I think the prompts will direct you. Just turn Progressive OFF.

Closed caption on dvds

Your TV will need to have (CC) capability. To view Closed Captioning (CC) information from a DVD using the CC function of the television, turn off the Progressive Scan function of the DVD player. If the DVD player doesn't have progressive scan then follow the instructions from your TV manual to setup closed captioning.
