I am not a computer professional, I am just trying to figure out what the heck has happened to my computer. I have a HP Pavilion Slimline s3420f PC and it is running Vista on it. I have always just put my computer to sleep instead of shutting it down since I use it quite frequently throughout the day. About a month or so ago my computer decided it would not go to sleep anymore. I have tried just about everything I can think of in the power management settings and I even tried going into the device manager and modifying the ethernet setting and disabled the wake on lan setting but even that didn't work. Someone please help!
Go to Advance Power Settings.
Set hard drive to turn off a minute or 2 before sleep.
Set Hybrid and Hibernate modes to "Off"
Under USB settings select "Disable"
Under Multimedia select "Allow ....."
also setup your screen to turn off ( pick how long monitor will stay on.
you can also try going into the bios and setting it to default.
save and reboot. let me know if this helps.
