Make sure red is matched up to red, green to green, and blue to blue first. Then, try a different set of YPbPr (component) cables if you have a set available. If it still shows up red, then read this:
If you are using a Progressive Scan TV
(TV must indicate Progressive Scan or
ProScan capability), to activate TV
Progressive Scan, please refer to your TV
user manual. For DVD system Progressive
Scan function, see page 28.
Helpful Hint:
– If your TV does not support Progressive
Scan, you will not be ab le to view the picture.
Press and hold OPEN/CLOSE button and
press ‘1’ to deactivate progressive scan.

Progressive Scan - turning on/off
To select this item, you must set “Video
Output” to Y PR PB and ensure that your
TV has progressive scan (See page 11.)
Follow the steps of “Using the Setup
Menu” and select :
> PROGRESSIVE
OFF
ON
PROGRESSIVE SCAN OFF
TV SHAPE
TV SYSTEM
VIDEO OUT
PROGRESSIVE
SCR SAVER
SMART POWER
OFF
Select this to disable Progressive scan
function.
ON

These are pp. 11 and 28 of your owner's manual for the HTS

If these methods still fail, try turning your TV's progressive scan off or on.

I have sound, but screen flickers and cant get picture, it sometimes shows a picture for a min then goes again, and off and on we get a red bar down left side

What you most likely need is this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-LG-Y-SUSTAIN-SUS-BOARD-RU-42PX10-RU-42PX10C-PLASMA-/400195756638?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d2d86a25e

There's a minor chance it may be something else, but with the sporadic problem appeareance it would be impossible to diagnose remotely.

This is the most likely reason for similar problems, but, I repeat, no guarantees.

I am not anyhow affiliated with whoever is selling this. You may be able to find better deals elsewhere.

The sound works but the picture don't show

Hi
This is more than likely your Y Sustain board that has failed.
Take the back of your tv and look to the left hand side, you will see a main board connected to 2 x buffer boards that connect to the screen via ribbons.
Take the part number of the main board and Google or Ebay for a replacement.
98% of the time this will cure your problem.
Hope this helps

LG 42INCH PLASMA TV BLANK SCREEN

Open the back cover and check the fuses on Y Sus Board and X Sus Board. If you can find a blown fuse, just replace that board and your problem will be fixed.
