My HT-R510, at times, loses it's sound settings

My HT-R510, at times, loses it's sound settings (direct / stereo / surround / dsp) between power off and power on. The behaviour is random and I have not been able to establish a pattern.
When the setting is lost, it does not respond to button clicks (direct/stereo..) of sound setting selection.

Any ideas?

SOURCE: My Onkyo HT-R510 will shut down after several

Might be over heating. Make sure you don't have anything sitting directly on top of it. I even put a little fan blowing outward at the back of my system to keep it cool.

SOURCE: Selecting phono preamp for Onkyo HT-R510

The magnetic cartridge preamp should work with the turntable, as presumably it will have a magnetic cartridge in it. The only reason that the amp states "magnetic" is that some very old turntables have ceramic cartridges which should not be connected to that terminal. Even if the turntable had a "ceramic" it could be replaced with a magnetic one!

How to I get my surround sound speakers to work with the cable box?

One way would be to connect one of the the digital audio outputs to the HT as an input (HDMI or optical digital audio).

Another would be to select one of the DSP modes that uses surround speakers. They work with all input modes.

I own a hitachi av surround reciever model No. HTA-DD3W. It has recently developed a problem in that it does not play in any other mode than stereo, ie no surround sound, multi stereo etc. please help

Hi amstok

Sounds like it may have a DSP failure. Straight stereo signals bypass the DSP stages. Could be an expensive fix. I suggest you take it to a Hitachi agent for a quote. Not something that can be easily fixed on the kitchen table I am afraid.

MY SAMSUNG MODEL HT-Z410. WILL PLAY DVD'S AND I CAN HEAR EVERYTHING IN THE BACKGROUND BUT I CANT HEAR PEOPLE TALKING

Try selecting different options for the DSP audio settings. Sometimes a simple 2 channel stereo with subwoofer gives the best dialogue intelligibility. I would avoid fancy reverb presets like auditoriums and churches etc. You probably want to find a nice balance between the dialog, the music and sound FX, and the bass (subwoofer) BEFORE YOU START MESSING WITH THE surround speaker FX. Also, you may find that you have to readjust all the settings for different videos. I finally just opted for the simplest, no-fuss approach. Usually the stereo with sub. For really good concert DVDs, you will probably want to use all the speaker configurations that 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1 support.

My yamaha DSP AX1 amp does not work when audio is connected via optical or coaxial any suggestions how to correct this. no sound comes from any speaker except the subwoofer.

Are all the speakers turned off (set to None) in the speaker menu.(except the sub)?

2 channel direct analog stereo may still work, but any surround modes will use the speaker settings and the full DSP digital section.

Check also the input mode isn't incorrect - although if the sub is wired correctly and gives sound this can't be whats wrong.

Sound through only 2 speakers

to determine if all the amps are working use the 7.1 direct in jacks, insert audio into each jack if all works then you have a defective surround sound assy also know as a dsp board..

I just bought a used VSX-D906S and surround speakers. Should it have surround in the DSP mode, or is that only available in the ProLogic mode.

DSP modes usually act on ANY input source, including stereo. Are you saying you have no surround speaker fucntions? Get in the setup and define, then adjust them.

I cannot get the functions on the remote to operate.ie pbass dsp/eq etc?

The P.BASS function is only available with 2 channel LPCM sources such as mp3,Divx,cd
and wma. Press P.BASS button and "POWER BASS ON" will be displayed on the screen.
The P.bass does not work with DSP/EQ or DOLBY PRO LOGIC ll modes.
If you press P.BASS in the DSP/EQ mode, the DSP/EQ mode is automatically shut off and the P. BASS function comes on.
The DSP/EQ function is only available in STEREO mode.
Press the PL ii mode button to show STEREO on the display.
This feature works with CDs, MP3-CDs, 2 channel DVD-Audio, DivX and Dolby Digital discs.
When playing a DVD disc encoded with two or more channels, multi-channel mode will be selected automatically and DSP/EQ function does not work.
