Print via usb with HP C3100 photosmart printer on an orange livebox printer using mac os10.6.2

the livebox DOES support printing I have 4 computers 1 running xp 1 on windows 7 both can print from the live box through a HP C3180 (although the scan function is not available) the 2 macs however can't, the macs used to print in os 10.5.8 but not since I upgraded to 10.6. I have tried adding printers through the cups (which is how I did it in leopard ) system but when i try to print through the liveprinter (HP C3180 connected via usb through the livebox) the job just sits there sometimes get an error" broken pipe" or "cannot connct will retry in 30 secs". I have tried every combination ie hp jet direct through socket:9100 etc but to no avail.
