Printer refuses to print black

Hi. I changed the cartridges and ever since it doesn't print black ink but it prints color although a bit off like the colours aren't mixed properly. The paper feeds fine, the printer goes though the motion but word documents come out blank unless I change the colour to blue, for example. I did all the nozzle checks and head cleaning but only the first two bars (blue and yellow) are printed - the test page prints the windows logo only and that now too with some lines through it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    I'm having the exact same problem. I changed out the black cartridge, but it still won't print properly. It says that the black ink is full now, but sometimes it is black, other times it prints out very faded with lines through it.

I had this problem. Turned out to be a faulty cartridge.

Our Lexmark Prospect Pro205 has sufficient ink in the black cartridge. The error message says there is interference with the black ink cartridge. Black ink does not print, but color inks print.

Your cartridge may need to cleaned. On the printer operator panel, press Setup button -> Maintenance -> Deep Clean Printhead. Your printer will then print a test page forcing ink through the cartridge nozzles and clean them.
If that doesn't help, your printer probably needs to be updated. The firmware update, available at http://bit.ly/p205fw, will help fix print quality issues.

I only want to print black color but was asked to replace color inks.

Unfortunatly, because its a color ink jet machine you will need to replace the ink to print anything. The way its designed is that it has one printer head for all four cartridges.

When you replace the color ink you will deffinetly be able to print.

I want to use black ink only and stop wasting color ink

Hi,
Go to Control Panel->Printers. Then right click on your printer and select printing preferences. There you will see an option like Print in Grayscale or Black and White only.
However, please note that some printers although they are set to print in grayscale they also use the color cartridge and some even don't allow you to print in grayscale if the color cartridge is empty. Why is that? Manufacturer's way of charging you more money.

Changing ink default to BLACK

Not possible.
Epson uses the black cartridge mostly, but also adds color to the black printing in order to keep the color inks from drying in the print jets on the printhead.
They also make lots of money that way...

===sorry===

Black ink wont print, but color works fine

The black cartridge needs replacing it sounds like. On many printers, that is the only way that you get black.

Hp officejet 6110 not printing with black ink

Hi lilacky-

Here are some HP support links that might be helpful... and a couple questions to consider.

Q: Is your new cartridge one of these listed below?
"The HP Officejet 6100 series and HP Digital Copier Printer 410 products use the print cartridges listed below:
* HP 56 black print cartridge
* HP 57 tri-color print cartridge
* HP 58 photo cartridge (replaces the HP 56 black print cartridge for six-ink photo printing)" info from: Installing a Print Cartridge

Has your cartridge been sitting a while in the box, maybe in a warm spot? Some times even new cartridges dry out a little. Was your old cartridge low or completely gone? Just as a test, if you put it back in your printer does the old cartridge work? Any printer error messages? Can you print a test page or an alignment page for your black cartridge? These might be too many questions but here are some HP support links with some How To information for getting more answers. Please let me know if any of these are helpful. see also: Slow or No Response from Printer

Ink cartridge light keeps blinking BEWARE SPAM NUMBER 1-800-532-4187

you need to print only in black if that is all the ink you have, and also you need to remove the color cartridge as it still registers in the printer as able to be used, although it is empty or near so. Did you remove the tape over the print head fron the new ink cartridge? Do a print head alignment, or use the toolbox icon to tell the printer that you just replaced the cartridge. Some HP models chip the ink cartridges so even a refill wont register as a full tank and the printer wont print. chip needs to be reset (difficult) or just replaced with a new cartridge.
