  • Anonymous Jun 09, 2008

My friends I had the same problem But thank God finally I got it to work again.

1.- if your sansa don't turn off. you hold the menu botton untill go off ( about 35 seconds)

when gets off. then you switch the botton on the top to = lock....

then you press the record botton and turn on your sansa ( don't release the record botton until turns on)

It is going to appear ***** recovery mode***

in your computer you will see in a drive D or E:/16 -MB storage.

    then realese the record botton.

then open a notepad program and just go to file and save.

then you will save the blank notepad name as " sansa.fmt

and you close the notepad. then you will copy that file in to the D o E:16 MB . (witch is you sansa) paste the file sansa.fmt

then close every window open and desconect your sansa .

put the botton on the top to UNLOCK , then turn on your sansa.

and wait a little bit and that is all...... ..... Congratulations......

    God Bless you all.

Switch to recovery mode! here:

copy and paste the following link into your web browser address bar, and then click Go or hit your Enter key. When prompted, choose the option to Save the file to your Desktop.

http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/Downloads/firmware/e200fw01.00.12.exe

Once you have downloaded the file, please follow these instructions.

1) Double click on My Computer so that you can see it on your screen.

2) Turn the player off.

3) On the top of the player is a Hold switch, move it to the right (toward the headphone jack) so you see Orange.

4) On the left hand side of the player is a Record button, press and hold it while connecting the player to the computer. Continue holding the Record button until you see a new icon under My Computer called 16MB FORMAT. Once you see that icon you may release the Record button.

5) Double click the file you downloaded earlier and run it. Follow all of the on-screen instructions, and when you get to the prompt where it asks you whether you would like to Format it, choose Yes. Once it is done, click Finish.

6) Disconnect the player and look at the screen. Several things will be displayed, and when you see Key Lock, System Shutdown, move the Hold switch on the top back to the left.

7) Turn the player on and watch the screen. If you see a Refresh Database Fail error, you will need to follow steps 1-7 again until you do not get the error. If it does not work the first time, it could take up to 3 times for it to work.

Hihi i been talked to one nice guy named chris if you e200 modell don´t work and wont boot you only see a black screen and blue wheel and cant come into recovery mode then you will need a linux os you can get an live cd i think ubuntu is the most ppl use (the new ones to it) you can download one ubuntu live cd on: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download it´s legal and free !!

then do like this(on the ubuntu):
ready for some fun fixing your sansa?

There's four files you need to get, plus one you need to create. Copy and paste the following lines:
####
mkdir ~/e200t
cd ~/e200t
wget http://daniel.haxx.se/sansa/e200tool/e200tool
wget http://daniel.haxx.se/sansa/e200tool/i2c-e260.bin
wget http://daniel.haxx.se/sansa/e200/BL_SD_boardSupportSD.rom
wget http://chrisjs.com/PP5022.mi4
touch sansa.fmt
####

After everything finishes downloading, check the md5sum for each file:
####
md5sum *
####
That should return:

af26eb02fc3454f5264bb028107a2700 BL_SD_boardSupportSD.rom
d9f946067844e2a24fcbb6cfedb75057 PP5022.mi4
795cc4e75d38284a1460b840fc14967a e200tool
cecb257eeb64ceaae9cb20d9956a0bfc i2c-e260.bin
d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e sansa.fmt

If any of those lines don't match, redownload the file and check the md5sum again.

Then, make the e200tool file executable, switch to root (if you aren't already; enter password if needed), put your Sansa into Manufacturing mode, and program the i2c:
Keep in mind - there seems to be a 15 second timeout for Manu mode, so if you get a -71 error, try again.
####
chmod +x e200tool
sudo su
####
(Put sansa in Manu mode)
####
./e200tool init
./e200tool i2cprogram i2c-e260.bin
####
Also, you can use that i2c file even if you don't have an e260 - they're all the same.

I don't have a working Linux computer at the moment, but I believe at this point you need to turn your Sansa off. Hold power for 15 seconds, then go back to Manu mode.
Next, recover the bootloader to get to recovery mode:
####
./e200tool recover BL_SD_boardSupportSD.rom
####
When the display turns on, hold the REC button. If you don't get into recovery mode, try again.
Once in Recovery mode, place
i2c-e260.bin, BL_SD_boardSupportSD.rom, PP5022.mi4, and sansa.fmt
on the recovery mode drive.

Disconnect the sansa, turn off hold, and it should (hopefully) work.

I need a free downloadable manual for a sansa sandisk e260

You may download a copy of the E200-series manual here. The only difference among the E200-series is the amount of internal memory.

Sansa e200 series

Why not read this before doing so ?

The MSC mode is meant for making backup files from player to the
computer and for formatting the player.

When you can access your player in MSC mode:
1. you're able to save files from the player to the computer.
2. after saving you can format the player.
- - - - - - - - - - -
After the player is formatted it has its full memory cleared and the
firmware needs to be reinstalled.
Firmware download for e200 series guide (follow the steps):
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/306/kw/e200*/r_id/101834
The "Sansa Updater Installation" is needed for firmware update:
http://mp3support.sandisk.com/sansa/Application/SansaUpdaterInstall.exe

When the firmware is restored all software and maps for transfers should be available again: Player ready for MTP mode again.
The MTP mode is meant for media transfers with synchronizing capability and playing the device.

E270 (6GB) not working

Sounds like the problem I had. I followed the instructions for "Load image failed" appears after updating e200 firmware". It's item #3 in the list.
http://www.sansa.com/support/sansa_e200/faqs

I found the necessary files in the forum (my Sansa is the e270 v1). The files can be found here:

I hope this helps.

My sansa e260

This is a strange error indeed, if there's nothin' important on it your best option is to format it and see what happens then.

Also it might help by doing some updates just to see if this is a known bug which Sansa have spotted and fixed by sending out updates for this bug.

It is well known that using mp3 players incorrectly you can loose memory on them but it's very unlikley you would loose all of your space.

Good luck. Hope my solution was helpful.

Sansa E200

You may have uploaded the incorrect or have had unstable power connected to your Sansa E200 when updating. If that is so, your Sansa E200 has been bricked and it's useless. This is the correct Sansa E200 Firmware Updater, "http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1376" (Note: Sandisk is Sansa)
