Morrfl, All lcd tv's (plasma & fluorescent lamp backlighted) have "smart" power supplys (ac line to dc) that are called "switch-mode-power-supplys" that can detect FAULTS with other circuits or with themselves and will go into what is known as SHUTDOWN-MODE when a FAULT CONDITION is detected. The SMPS does this to protect against having a catastrophic nonrecoverable failure! e.g. sparks, smoke, fire. There are many reasons that LCD tv's go into shutdown! However, your set is a viable candidate for repair. When you stated "picture turns off after 1 second" means it still has the capability of displaying information on the LCD panel! But don't do anything just yet about fixing it. Check the availibility of a replacement SMPS number DPS-336AP. The drop-in SMPS could have same problem as the current one because nobody has made the determination of the ROOT CAUSE of failure for this SMPS. All they know is that they fail!! You will need to read all the posts here on fixya and elsewhere to maybe???? find out ROOT CAUSE and exactly what component(s) fail and more importantly WHY! It is now 2009 and these LVM-37W1 units have been failing by the hundreds because of SMPS failures since 2007 or 8 ! Yet nobody has investigated to COMPONENT LEVEL why the SMPS fails. Well, all I can say is good luck guy. If you do manage to get it up and running again I would certainly like to hear back from you. try me at [email protected] or here on fixya. I'm 12fixlouie. Hope this was of some use! If yes please rate on fixya.

I also had a LVM-37W1- it would power up for a few seconds and shut off. I removed the power supply board and checked for bad solder connections. On transformer(T2) pin 4-which connects to capacitor (C311) there was a poor solder connection which would cause the tv to shut down. All operations were normal after that.

I just had my LVM-37W1 torn apart to check the power supply for the same issue everyone else has been having with the TV shutting down intermittently. I found the same issue with the bad solder joints on transformer(T2) pin 4-which connects to capacitor (C311). I resoldered the pins and the TV is currently working fine.

The problem is definitely the power supply. It has a problem with being mechanically intermittent. If you tap the power supply it will shut down. I sent my power supply out for repair at a module repair company. It came back with same problem, they went over it again and it still had shutdown issues when tapped. They sent me another power supply they had in stock and it had the same shutdown issue. I wasn't sure if it was the power supply any longer. I took a look at the power supply and was able to repair it myself. If you want to know the repair, contact me at carneyke@localnet.**com (remove the **). Take Care

Hi,

Depending on the make and model of TV, there's sometimes a menu option to set the display. This is often only accessible via the remote control - somewhere!!!

Turn off a few seconds after picture appears on screen

Good day!!!!

That problem is usually cause of faulty capacitors on the power supply board..

Just follow this instruction to fix your TV..

1. Open the back cover of your TV.
2. Look at the power supply board..Its normally connected to the power cord..
3. After that,,try to look at the actual image of capacitors if it is bulged on the top so that you can easily determine the bad capacitors..
4. After that,,try to replaced the bad capacitors using soldering iron and soldering lead..replaced the capacitors only with the same type ratings and value..
5. Some of the capacitors not bulged so its better if have a capacitance meter

The picture went "dark" but

Hi,

This is an indication that the backlight of your unit is not working properly. This is caused by faulty either in the power supply board or the inverter board. You have to check the output voltage of the power supply board feeding the inverter board, if present replaced the inverter board. If not, check the power supply board for leaky electrolytic capacitor or replaced the entire power supply board.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!

I have a Toshiba, 62HM195, It turns on for about 10 seconds & then turns off. No picture or sound ever appears. What could the problem be?

Hello,
There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc. Look for 5vdc, 12vdc, and 24dvc. You can look at the sample of the power supply board, the picture with the soldering side has labelling of what you should have on the output of the power supply, yours may be labeled on the top side of the board, there are high voltage on the board so you must be real careful, if you are not sure, let the professional handle it.
Good luck in solving the problem.....

Takes about 5 minutes for picture to appear... Then every one to two minutes the picture disappears. It comes back on for 1 - 2 minutes then repeats. When set if first turned on, the stereo/stand-by light (red) flashes on/off until just before picture first appears .if your tv is very old than it might be due to crt getting weak crt base loose loose contact in power supply thanks
