My Acer One Aspire is stuck in hibernate. After it updated itself and said it was preparing to shut down, it was stuck in the preparing for shut down mode for hours. When I let the battery run down to turn it off, the only way to do so, it is now stuck in the hibernate mode when I plug it back in.

I fixed it myself. I let the battery run down to shut it off, and when I plugged it in to recharge it I turned it on and the screen came up briefly with the message to press F8 for options. F8 gave me the option for system recovery. It restarted and everything was back to normal. I had to do the unplug, plug back in and catch the F8 message a couple of times because the F8 message is so brief. I then found there is a setting to prevent the computer from going into hibernate, and I set it on"never" so it won't do it again..

This solution may sound stupid, but it is affective. Try to press really long time (about 1-2 minutes) on the power button of the laptop. wait for it to shut down completely. Then turn it on to see what happens.

What may have caused this is an update of any sort.

Open Control Panel, Power, power settings, change power settings to high performance, Disable Hibernation, sleep. When your laptop is not in use shut it down and unplug. It will last longer and a boot everyday will reset the laptop.

Acer5920 stuck in configuring updates.

This is generally caused by bad blocks in the Master Boot Record(Table). The drive itself is probably not salvagable. You'll need a reputable reapir person to slave your drive to another system to get the data off.

Good Luck

How do you get an acer out of hibernation?

If it hangs in hibernation the only way to get it out is to hold the power button down until it shuts off, and reboot. If it continues to hang up in hibernation, do a system restore o system repair with the recovery or operating system disc. If the problem persists after the restore or repair, then you will need to disable the hibernation.

Hangs up on the standby, hibernate, and shutdown screens

In my case with an Aspire 4710 it was the old or incorrect chipset drivers from the Acer site.
After downloading the proper new drivers from Intel all is fine.
