Replace door speakers and install sub in 2003 sequoia

There could be several reasons why the head unit for your car does not work. The most likely issue is that the head unit is not compatible with your stereo system. The JBL premium sound system has a large woofer in the bottom of each door, a small mid-range speaker next to the woofer, & tweeters next to the front door windows in the corner, & two full-range speakers near the rear seats. The woofer (not sub-woofer) handles all the low end. You can test the woofer by turning the BASS to max and TREBLE to minimum (make sure balance and fader are centered) and put your ear next to each woofer.
The woofer is usually the 1st speaker to have problems after 10 years or so. The outer edge of the woofer starts to degrade. You will usually hear a rattling sound out of the woofer when this happens.
NOTE: If no sound at all out of the woofer (tweeters are OK), you might take your car into a car stereo shop. They can put a speaker on the wires connected to the speaker and make sure your problem is not the radio.
PROBLEM: You can still hear sound out of the woofers but it is distorted
SOLUTION 1: Go to a car audio shop and have them install new woofers. These may cost $30+ each but the dealer cost is over $200 for each woofer (crazy).
SOLUTION 2: More involved but very cost effective. If you or a friend is handy, you can go to www.speakerworks.com and order a new set of speaker outer rings (on the site they are called speaker SURROUND) that will replace the damaged outer rings on the woofers (replace on both woofers). They really work great and your speakers should last for many more years.

need to remove back panel.. make sure window is up. there is an opening . willl need i belive a 10mm socket. reremove lock actuator. then handle..replace and reinstall shouild take about 1 1/2 hours

use a long screwdriver, approx 8in and skinny. Under the handle you will see the broken part on the right side. remove that part and insert screwdriver striaght up as possible, then point down to push lever inside door. REMEMBER to unlock doors first, after inside panels removed and license plate, you can remove the license plate box and replace handle

This is a very common problem with the Sequoias (along with broken inside door openers).

Go to www.tundrasolutions.com and find the Sequoia section. There are numerous threads about the steps needed to replace this handle. Some go into great detail about the steps needed and offer fixes to keep it from happening again.

This design obviously has flaws, and Toyota should have acted to fix these flaws much sooner.

how do i get the rear gate panel off so I can replace the latch on the 2003 sequoia.

FYI - I just took our 2004 Sequoia in because of speaker rattle coming from the front door speakers. Before I could tell them the problem, they guessed what it was. They see loads of Sequoias and Tundras with JBL systems due to the front door 8in speaker, basically, coming apart. His suggestion was to replace only the bottom 8in speaker, because the top tweeters usually are in good working condition. There is a minimal failure rate on the tweeters.

Remove your tag bolts and remove the cover by pulling easy as not to break the tabs. The tag lights can but do not have to come out. At this point you can access the handle. You will find that the handle has a plastic arm that trips the latch by pulling a cable it will be broken. To open the door just pull on the cable. Once I open the door I removed the inside door panel and a metal cover which has about 8 10mm bolts it gives you more room to work.
