Consistency in playing dvds. Some play fine, and others skip. This is a problem with new dvds. All the usual things to correct have been done (checking for scratches, cleaning dvd,etc.). Dvds are -R formatted. Any ideas?

Make sure the unit isn't overheating. They have processors in them to decode the digital video. If there are any fans make sure they aren't clogged up with lint. Th unit shouldn't have and thing sitting on top of it or sitting on anything hot. If all that looks good try getting a lens cleaner one for CD players should work. Its just a disc that plays that has little brushes on it. Best of luck!
dear sir
good day
please test the cd on an other lab top
so you will know the problem and i think
it will come from the data cable of your cd
thank you
PowerBook G4 is at least a five-year-old machine at this point. A DVD drive can **** in lots of dust in five years. Try hooking up to an external DVD drive. If it plays the same discs with no problem, you need a cleaning or replacement. Frankly, an external DVD drive is cheaper than replacing your internal drive.
I called Samsung. They told me how to do a software reset and solve the problem 1. Take out all CDS. 2. Turn off and then on. 3. HOld down stop for 5 - seconds.
In response to your jvc-a75r DVD player, sometimes the solution might be less complex than it may appear. Had the same problem with my Samsung s321,the machine refused to read DVD's but would play CD's no problem. Simply opened up the cover(usually)4-6 small screws, and found my dog's hair inside of the player covering the laser eye.Electrostatic ionization
attracts dust, etc. into the player remarkably well sometimes. Carefully used a cotton swap to remove debri. PLayerworked fine afterwards
...Good luck!
