It sounds like either the battery has failed and no longer has enough power in it or else the battery ground wire, or power wire have become disconnected, the easiest way totest the battery is to run jumpers from the battery posts to the headlights (it does not matter which wire connects where as long as all other wires are removed from the lights)and see if the light, light up and if so how bright, if it does not the battery is not holding a charge and will have to be tested to find out if it is bad or the charging system on the tractor is bad, If they light then the next thing is to connect jumper cables from the battery to the starter solonoid and ground, following color code (positive to positive, negative to negative)and then try to start it, if it does there is a break or something is disconnected between the battery and the starter solonoid. If it does not start then most likely the starter is in need of replacement. Hope This Helps Don

It sounds very much like the ignition switch check that you first have power to the ignition switch using a meter. Turn on switch and check there is power coming out again using a meter. if there is no power going to the ignition switch check wiring for breaks also make sure you check all micro switches

Craftsman lawn mower 917270810 will not start

When the ignition key is turned to the start position you should have a 12 volt supply to the low tention wire at the solinoid, if not you need to check if there is a 12 volt supply to the back of the ignition switch, if not there is a break in the wiring to one of these components, also check that there is a good eart to the chassis from the black battary leed.

Hello - I have craftsman 42 inch deck mower with a kohlar engine that does not start. Battery appears fine, when I turn it - it clicks with the head lights turning on. Ang ideas on how to get it started?...

With the key in the run position, using a jumper cable, jump from the positive post on battery to terminal on starter motor. If it runs you have a solenoid or ignition switch problem. (assuming all electrical connections are clean). If it doesn't crank the battery is the culprit.

My riding mower blows fuses once you turn the key.

Sounds like you are on the right path, maybe some wires on the ignition were replaced backward, and you are sending +12v directly to ground? Does it blow right away?

I have got a Craftsman model 917.270821 19.5 electric start 42" mower and cant get it to start I have replaced the starter and had the battery checked and all is good there, but dont seem to be gettin

check the wires from the back of the ignition and also the small wire that connects to the starter, if you get a 12v test light check each wire individually by holding the test light on the wire and have somebody turn the key, the test light should come on if the power is going through the wire.
If there is no power the ignition may need replacing

Where is the fuse for Craftsman 17.5 HP 42 Riding Mower

I'm not sure the solenoid/relay would even energize at 10 volts (so you may not hear the clidking).

The battery is essentially dead at 10 volts -- try charging again for 4 hours or so, and then measure the voltage.

If it's not up near 12 volts, you have a dead cell and need a new battery.
