Mine started as a red cloud and has grown to cover the whole screen. You can still see picture but the integrity of the colors on the screen is gone.

About three years ago my hitachi 50v500's picture turned red.

The repair shop wanted about $1200 to fix the set. Itwas out of warranty by 2 weeks. After reading all the complaints from 50v500 owners and trying to get Hitachi to fix it, I decided to purchase a new TV.

It was a good set while it worked.

My Hitachi 50UX58X screen turns green. I tap the side of the TV and it goes back to normal. It is only happening a couple of times a night but it is getting anoying. Any Ideas?

I have a 5 year old Hitachi 50V500 UltraVision projection TV and the picture color is too red.

I had a repair man out and he said a refurbished part would cost ~$700 and a new part would cost ~$1,200.

What is the part I am looking for and can we get it for less and install ourselves?

The problem is most likely a defective light engine, it is a very commen problem with these tvs. hitachi is not very forthcoming with information or help unless your still under warrenty, i have talked with a few people about this and have found a lawyer starting a class action suit, if interested here is a segment of another conversation with all the info to get you started. " let other Hitachi TV owners know about the Class Action Lawsuit against Hitachi regarding the defective optical light engine. They need to call the Law Firm in Dallas Texas, HORP & B, that you mentioned is handling the case and talk to Victor @ 1-877-308-7900. They are taking documentation and cases regarding this suit and people that feel like they have been treated unfairly wherein Hitachi denied sending them a new optical light engine @ n/c need to call and state their case. "
good luck with your problems

the bulb is accessed in the front just under the screen on the left side. it comes in a black box and is not removable from the box. you have to replace the whole assembly the bulb is in. it costs about 250 dollars depending on where you buy it, i recomend ebay, there is a very respectable seller there and it should be cheaper than a distributor

Hello
This is usually not a repair a layman is able to do
as the ammount of plugs and wiring that go with it.
also the tubes have to be set up after installation .
The actual problem may be the red driver transistor or a cold solder joint.
I recommend a tec. to repair it.
Thanks Guy9

Hitachi 50V500, no picture ,sounds for about 15 sec.then goes off

Hello,

I would try to re-seat the lamp. Pull the lamp out, check it to see if it may have gone bad again, then put it back in to make sure the contacts are connected. Before applying power, unplug the TV for 5 minute, and then plug in/turn it on.

Most lamps, if bad from the factory, will go out within 3 months of use. It does happen, and happens more often than you would think.

Try this, and see what happens. Good luck.

Hitachi ultravision

It could be you need a new lamp again (your might have gotten a defective one) or "temp" is the temperature sensor that is located on top of you lamp, could be bad also. If the lamp gets too hot, the temperature sensor will shut down you lamp so your TV will not catch on fire. If your temperature sensor has gone bad, your lamp will not turn on at all.
