My daughter's friend dropped a dresser on my phone. The screen is completely black except for a crack that lights up when the phone is turned on. Phone still works, just can't see anything on the screen.

I assume since she was able to lift the tv that she is probably too old to spank.
Sorry, kidding aside, that sounds a lot like the LCD screen panel itself is damaged. Unfortunately there is really no way to get a replacement screen installed for less than what you paid for the TV new.
If your warranty is still valid, you can always try returning it to Walmart and see if they will exchange it for a new one. I don't think the part about you dropping it would help your cause though, so maybe leave that bit out.
Otherwise I would recommend you get one of the exact same TVs as a replacement and put the old one away in the attic for storage. Then if you ever have any trouble with your new TV down the line, you will have a second mostly working TV right there to salvage spare parts from in order to get one working again.
Dropping the netbook will have probably broken the LCD screen.
There is no other way to repair the problem without replacing the screen itself. You can however use a external monitor and use the keyboard to toggle between the two screens.
I know this is probably not what you wanted to hear but unfortunately LCD screens are fragile so a good knock can crack them causing only one half or the part or the screen which is not broken to show. The backlight itself sounds like its working as there is still light showing behind the cracks.
yes ..it is cracked..the screen must be replaced...and you don't have to drop the phones for this to happen....leaving it in the sunlight and exposed to cold and hot temperatures causes the screen to contract and expand...which eventually cracks them from the stresses...so...not your fault...no worries..but yes for sure...the screen must be replaced or get a new phone.....
When you connected the external monitor thto the laptop did it display?
If so then you have to reset the monitor port. Hold down the function key and find the FKEY that shows a picture of a monitor. Press that until you get the laptop screen back.
well frist put the charger in and let it charge till sy chrging for about 3 hours then then it will say don charging and then take the cord out and then turn it on
