My Panasonic TH-42PX60U Plasma tv will not respond to the Panisonic remote or the universal (comcst) remote for volume, channels, menu, tv/video selections, etc. I gat cable channels with the Comcast remote, but can't use the SD card reader, access the dvd player, etc. Any suggestions? All this worked fine until recently. John Pride

A universal remote is not an option on todays televisions because there are so many custom options that need to be set with the remote. You will have to find an OEM model. Being a plasma unit this might be hard to do. Try EBAY
Please enter the TV's Setup menu and choose the "Other adjust" option. Then choose the "Side bar" option and use the right arrow to change the color of the side bars.
iv got a panisonic i dont know if its the same but i click on the options buttion witch takes me to the options menu
then it says ad in the multi audio/ad box change this to eng
Forced to factory default:press and hold [VOLUME ( - )] on the TV and press [MENU] on the remote 2 seconds. Exit: Unplug Power to reset. If it does not help, the main board need to replace. For further questions, please add your comment.
My son put a penny in the SD card slot of my Pansonic flat screen tv. I finally got the penny out but now the volume and tv controls do not work. I can change the channels through my cable box but that is it. The volume does not work on my cable remote or the flatscreen. What do you suggest I do to fix this problem?? Thanks, Josh
It's definitely a firmware problem. I called Panasonic and they were very polite about the entire situation and sent me a SD card with the firmware update. If you don't have time and you're tired of listening to tv at the same volume there is a way to do a hard reset.
I figured that unplugging the unit would do this, but there is one other step that you have to do to ensure that this works.
Generally the power button on the tv is always in the "on" position, this is what allows the remote to work. In order to do a hard reset the on/off button must be in the off position. Make sure that is off, then unplug the unit, let it sit there for a minute or two and plug it back in. If the tv comes back on as soon as you plug it back into the wall/powerstrip then the button was not in the off position.
This isn't the best fix, you'll still need to get the firmware update but it will at least give you the ability to use your tv normally....well until it decides to randomly lock up on you again and you have to do this all over.
I had a similar problem where my TH-42PX60 would turn on but all controls were disabled. I could not change channel, input, volume or anything other than turning the TV on and off. I called customer support and they directed me to this site: http://www.pasctraining.panasonic.com/specialapplications/productfirmwaredownloads/downloads1.asp to download a firmware update onto an SD Card. I inserted the SD card into the slot in my TV and powered it on. The update took about 3 minutes and I haven't had a problem since.
This is a link to the instructions to install the update:
