I have a different GoGear model (6330), but the same problem. So the solution I found may work for you, too. In my case using WMP or Rhapsody, album art was being placed in a folder on the device called Albums, when it needs to be under Music in the same folder as the album it goes with. Album art files should always be called "Album Art.jpg" and are 170 x 170 pixels. They can be manually copied or moved to the correct location by just opening the GoGear as a "drive" in Windows Explorer. Hope this helps!
The music file has to have the album art properly encrypted, or the GoGear will always display this default image. Make sure you are downloading from a source that properly codes the album art - you can check on whether the display will appear how you like by first looking at the song in Windows Media Player in album view - if WMP displays the correct art, then you should be ok.

Have you tried manually adding the album art? Unless you copy a picture, right click on the album art and then click paste album art in windows media player, it doesn't even show up on itunes. Once you have pasted the album art, it is then embedded into the file. Use a program like iTunes, Windows Media Player, or Phillips Songbird to then sync it.
It should work, but it can be annoying and glitchy.
