Sub-Zero PRO48 fridge - Error Code 40 and EC91

I have a Sub-Zero PRO48 fridge and the service display shows EC 40 and EC91 !
The fridge is not able to keep the set temperature in the two fridge compartments. The temperatures are now 68 and 66 degrees F ! The freezer compartment is ok !
Looking forward to hearing your advice !

Be sure to be careful with your Sub Zero refrigerator. It is the Mercedes of refrigeration and it is easy to make a simple problem more complicated if you do not know what you are doing with their built-in refrigerators.

Huuum at your service,

You said, Your Sub Zero side by side refrigerator compartment will not cycle off even tho temperature is 30-32 degrees.

When a refrigerated appliance will not cycle off and on as the temperature calls for, the thermostat is always the problem.
And if it is allowed to continue doing so, you will eventually or suddenly find your self with a enormous compressor replacement bill. Because if the compressor does not rest in between it's cooling obligation, it will burn it self out! So this was a good move to find this out now!
And a Sub Zero most people do not trash just like that and buy new, either!
(like some people for 20 -30 years working 15 hour days with no day off)

You need Service and the correction asap.

code 40 compressor for the freezer side over runing. check the coils upper part of the unit. or condenser fan motor. easy things to check.

Hi,

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Hi,

This error code is a long compressor run time for the freezer compartment, check the condenser to make sure its clean. Also make sure al fans are running as needed. You may need a service person if all these items are functional, as a leak in the sealed system can also cause this issue but rare to have this in both compartments.

Pro48 sub zero clicking

This usually indicates that the control module is bad. Trace the clicking to it's source either on the back of the fridge or inside the fridge near the controls.

The control panel flashes "EC" where the fridge temp is displayed. The word "service" is also flashing.

"EC 50" means excessive refrigerator compressor run time. What is the serial number? Is the condenser fan running? Can you feel airflow from the left side up top? Is the strip between the fridge and freezer hot to the touch?

40-ec means your freezer is running too much and can not get cold. You should call for service asap.

Sub zero 632S error code 21

EC 21 has nothing to do with the refigerator. From the 600-2 series service manual page 3-21 EC 21 is Defrost Overheat fault.
The defrost system is only in the freezer and on a completely seperate refrigeration system. Clear the EC by holding the bell key pad down until you here a tone this is going to be a minimum of 15 but can be as long as 30 depending on the generation of your appliance. The part that you will most likely need to replace is the defrost terminator which stops the defrost cycle. You may have also had a problem in the refrigeration section which did fix by yourself, good job.
