I have a brand new 875 installed a few days ago. I have a TV with a HDMI input. I have connected the 875 to the TV through a high quality HMDI cable. When I complete the setup in 875 to HDMI output with Auto upscaling, I get a signal on the right corner of the TV showing ''HMDI1, 720P".
As a next step I connected a DVD player through component cables to the 875. When I played a DVD, I do not get any output on the TV.
I tried replacing the connection between the DVD and TV with a S-Video, and the results are the same.
When I connect the 875 to the TV through a component or Monitor out I get signals on the TV.
Is this a set up problem, or have I been loaded with a defective piece of 875?
djnick989, thank you for your help. From what I have been able to understand, you are saying S-Video input will not ouput to a HDMI. And of course I have to check the scalse set up in the Receiver to that that matches the TV.
Well, the Onkyo 875 is supposed to upscale ALL inputs to HDMI. Secondly, I patiently tried setting the scale between the receiver and the TV from 480, all the way to 1080.
Nothing works.
My current DVD player does not have a HDMI out. I will try the TV directly with an HDMI player in a few days. But I feel that is not the problem

My configuration: ZONE 1 (living room) DishNetwork Dual Tuner DVR Tuner 1 [S-Video out] -> [S-Video in] ONKYO TX-SR875 [HDMI out] -> [HDMI in] Sony KDS-60A3000 rear projection TV
ZONE 2 (living room) DishNetwork Dual Tuner DVR Tuner 2 [Composite Video out] -> [Composite Video in] ONKYO TX-SR875 [Composite Video out] -> [Composite Video in] Samsung AQUOS LCD TV
Problem: ONKYO receiver stops sending video signal to my ZONE 1 Sony TV through the HDMI connection. ZONE 2 may still receive video. (NOTE: the issue might be related to the upconverter circuitry?)
Symptom: I couldn't see any video, but I could hear the Tuner 1 audio through my ONKYO. An important clue is that I couldn't see ONKYO's on-screen display menu on my TV when hitting the [Setup] button on my remote. But, I could see my TV's Sony-based menus and display options.
Solution: 1. Put all ZONES in Standby mode using the remote. Hit these buttons on remote: [Receiver], then [Standby]. [Receiver], [ZONE2], then [Standby], [Receiver], [ZONE3], then [Standby]. You should NOT see any lights on the ONKYO except maybe one red led near the power button. 2. Pull the power plug out of the back of the ONKYO, and leave unplugged for 20-30 seconds. Turning off any power center it is connected to isn't enough. You MUST unplug the power from the back of the ONKYO for 20-30 seconds. 3. Reconnect the power cord to the ONKYO. 4. Using the remote, set ZONE1 to a video source known to be working. If you don't see video, try leaving the power cord off for a longer period.
I know it sounds too simple to work, but that's what brought the video back for me the few times the video stopped displaying. Hope it works for you.

If you hookup your TV directly to the coaxial cable, bypassing the cable-box, do you get a few channels? If so, then the coaxial cable is carrying a signal, which is good.
How are you hooking the output from the cable-box to the input(s) on the TV? Coaxial output port on box to coaxial input port on TV?
Red/blue/green "component" outputs on box to matching inputs on TV? Red/White audio outputs on box to red/white inputs on TV? HMDI output from box to HDMI input on TV?
You have to "tell" the TV which of the inputs:
* coaxial (with TV set to Channel 3 or 4)
* component
* HDMI
to "listen" to.
Its a vidio/audio input which looks like this. If you have an hdmi port on a laptop you can connect it to a TV and have the audio and video transfer to the TV.
Try all of your HDMI inputs, one may be rated at the correct voltage to be able to display the video. The offical part that Panasonic was giving for this was PDPHDMIKIT, its basically a HDMI extender that regulates the voltage. The part is still available online, try partstore.com or andrews-electronics.
an output like ( HDMI ) would be on a dish reciever , and a hdmi input on a tv would plug into that output on the dish reciever
Is HDMI what you are trying to connect? then you would need an HDMI cable
HDTV = High Definition television , which means that you have a built in digital tuner that will pick up the digital and high definition broadcast channels with an antenna connected to the tv
i know this sounds stupid, but have you "toggled" or "played" with the HDMI cables? are they the same manufacturer? HDMI channel connections are very fickle. If just one connection is not exactly correct, they go to a limp, no go status. Since they run at such a minimal voltage, i can't see them "blowing" the outputs on the devices.however....if your cable has a serial type output for video only, I would connect the hdmi convertor to it and see if it works.
Hi Greg,
Again, if you have a high definition dish box with HDMI output,and a
dvd player with HDMI output,please connect them both directly to your
TV HDMI inputs.
When watching TV(dishnetwork box).remember to switch the HDMI video inputs.
Same as your DVD player,you need to switch it under your TV video input.

if I understand your question properly.. its because your direct tv output doesnt broadcast in high def so its giving you the standard tv definition inputs which are RGB or Component.so you will lose picture quality cos its running at fewer lines or pixels. hope this helps
YOU ARE PROBABLY USING 5 SPEAKERS WITH OR WITHOUT A SUB, AND YOU CONNECTED THE REAR SPEAKERS TO THE REAR SPEAKER OUTPUTS. THEY WON'T WORK THIS WAY. RECONNECT THE REARS TO THE SURROUND SOUND SIDE SPEAKERS, AND RERUN THE AUDISY SETUP. THIS SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS AND SET UP THE DVD INPUT, IT WON'T WORK RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX, TOO MANY VARIABLES.

I CAN'T GET MY 875 TO RECOGNIZE COMPONENT VIDEO SIGNALS, I GUESS I'M STUCK USING HDMI, AND COMPOSIT INPUTS.
Hello, the TX-SR875 does not support up-converting from component or S-video to HDMI. Is the model number correct? You stated the receiver is "brand new". This model is from 2007. Thank you, Onkyo USA
