Re: The automatic shutoff won't let the iron heat up
You either need to press a small button on the protection to reactivate it, or buy a new one and replace it. But first check the thermostat, since there is a reason for all this. Check also the heating element with an ohmmeter.

The most likely cause is a faulty temperature sensor. The Iron is most likely shutting itself off because it believes that it is already at the correct heat. The less likely scenario would be a faulty heating element. In either case you will not be able to fix this yourself.
Check that the Iron is correctly plugged into a working outlet as that often tends to be the solution we all miss.
There is a thermal fuse in the iron which blows when overheated. This fuse has to be replaced.
You can probably find one on-line at radioshack.com -- match the temperature rating of the old fuse. It'll have to be crimped in -- if you solder it, the heat will blow it.
This is a problem with a lot of Rowenta irons. It is the auto shut off that is not working properly and the only way to fix it is to have it disassembled and the switch hardwired to be on whenever the iron it plugged in. It is a thermal metal switch and it just stops working and then the iron will not turn on and the yellow light blinks.
