Noisy, high pitched whirring MUM6622UC/01 Bosch Universal Mixer

I have a MUM6622UC/01 Bosch Universal Mixer. When I turn it on, the first few seconds sound normal, but then it is VERY loud. The noise seems to be coming from the blender side of the machine. What do I do, or where can I take it for repairs. I bought it new 1-17-09, so it is still under warranty. I live in zip code 98531, USA

My wife's bosch mixer had a similar problem but it was a very loud grating problem. I talked to the bosch dealer in Utah, sorry, I've forgotten which one-- the one that does the repair. This is typically what happens: the seal on the blender wears out, which results in fluids from the blender dripping into the motor, onto the upper motor bearing. So, the upper bearing corrodes and is what is causing the bearing failure and the loud noise (needed hearing protection to operate it). I was lamenting the cost and time it would take to ship the mixer both directions (not actually that much compared to the price of the mixer), and he said he would sell me the bearing and the bottom replacement part of the blender that was leaking. So, I did the repair myself, but it took awhile, and I had to build a puller for the bearing to get it off the shaft, modifying a harbor freight gear puller. But it now is back to new. So, it was a success for me, but i would recommend anyone who isn't very mechanical to just send it off to Utah (again, I forgot the place, I think they talk about the shop in one of the other posts), and you will have a better than new machine.

SOURCE: Can't get the drive coupling off my Bosch Universal to replace it

I have had my Bosch Universal Mixer with the Blender and Food Processor Attachments since 2005, and I've loved it since the day I got it... that is, until the blender broke while my son was crushing ice to make slushies...

I figured out the "drive coupler" was stripped and needed replacing, but I couldn't figure out how to take apart the "blade assembly" which includes the "drive coupler" part...

My retailer, Pleasant Hill Grain, sent me the following email:

"I am not aware of any printed instructions for removing the old coupling and
replacing with the new. We recommend holding on to the blades with 1 hand and a
towel and using a needle nose pliers to unscrew the old coupling. You would put
the new coupling on in the same manner.
If these instructions do not work, I would suggest contacting the Service
Dept at Kitchen Resources in Utah. Their phone is 800-692-6724."

I still couldn't figure out how to take apart the blade assembly, so I did end up calling the distributor, Kitchen Resources...

Dave, the tech @ Kitchen Resources, answered my call on the first ring...

Once I explained my problem, he started giving me the same instructions Pleasant Hill Grain gave
me... I explained to him that holding the blades tightly wasn't working for me.

As it turned out, holding the blades did not secure the drive shaft because
the drive shaft was broken off INSIDE the blade assembly - which is why I could
not unscrew the old drive coupling part.

Dave's next question revealed the true issue at hand... my Blender Attachment has the blade assembly made of plastic - they switched to plastic
in 2005 because the metal assembly turned black in dishwashers.

Bosch just recently went back to using metal for this part - apparently the
plastic blade assembly didn't hold up.

Kitchen Resources - the U.S. Bosch Distributor - is sending me a new blade
assembly - no charge, he said it's covered under warranty. Woo Hoo!

Best of all, I hadn't yet purchased the replacement drive coupling part, because
I wanted to know how to go about replacing the part before ordering a new part.

With shipping this part would have been a $50+ repair - you have to love
customer service of that caliber!

[Aside: You really don't need to ever put this part in the dishwasher - wash
the inside with by putting hot water and perhaps a little dish detergent inside
the blender and turning it on - rinse the outside under the sink... no
dishwasher needed! ]

SOURCE: Teeth keep stripping on the Bosch blender.

Is there a lubrication issue? Is there a bind or load to the drive after the gears? What has changed since it worked well? P{ancake batter would not be sufficient load to eat gears. Are you changing speeds under load?

SOURCE: Old Bosch mixer on its last life?

Sounds like the motor is going. If it has a lifetime warranty (which I'm surprised to hear) it will be interesting to see if you can get it repaired. There are not many old parts around for the older models. I have one too that just needs the brown knob but can't find one anywhere! Good luck

Never used new bosch universal plus making bread started rattling sound

I do not know a lot about this machine. I am a DIY fix anything. It sounds like one of the mounting points on either the motor or the gearing gave way. Regardless it is new, send it back & have it fixed or replaced. Sorry, I know that is not what you wanted to hear, but is safest considering your investment.

We just got a 6 quart kitchenaid mixer, we have used it once and the loud high pitched sound is very irritating. Is this a problem that will go away in a short time, or do we send it back for repairs? Our...

Hi Wayne. If you want to keep the mixer, you'll have to buy some earplugs. Newer Kitchenaid mixers are all that noisy. The best thing that I can say about them, is that they've got great paint jobs. If you do keep the mixer, other revelations may occur later when the plastic transmission housing fails and possibly ruins your mixer. These units are poorly manufactured in my opinion. I know because I've been through my own Kitchenaid mixer rebuild. I recommend that you return it and consider an Electrolux DLX. My own solution was to buy a used commercial Hobart mixer and rebuild it. I am once again a happy man!
