I have a six year old sony vaio desktop. It has a DVD ROM drive and a DVD+RW/CD-RW drive. The DVD+RW/CD-RW drive stopped recognizing discs. I unistalled and reinstalled, I updated the drivers - still nothing. I purchased an external DVD burner today. My computer recognizes the device but when I insert the installation disc in the new burner the disc is not recognized. Can someone help me?

I used to burn from Windows Media. when I started having problems I tried ashampoo - that worked for a little while. My computer recognizes the external burner but when I put a disk in it - even a blank one- my computer does not recognize that there is a disk inserted, neither does ashampoo or windows media.
Probably you don't need the driver cd's.. What program do you prefer to burn cd/dvd's ? Doesn't it auto detect your new external burner?
