Just bought a 29 LTD Classic every thing works but I can not get any sound from it. My p/a works and when I key the mic the sound comes from the radio. Do I need better antennas?

Hi k,
Welcome to FixYa.
My name is John. I will be assisting you with your issue.
It sounds like you have a Mic issue. Take the Mic cord end apart,
it has just three(3) tiny screws holding it. May just have to swap two(2) wires.
You will need a soldering iron for this. On the end of the plug face you will see
the pin numbers i,2,3,4. Here is the wiring.
1- shield
2- audio(white)
3- transmit(red)
4- receive(black) Then re-assemble and enjoy
Thanks for choosing FixYa. Happy Holidays.......John

I got a used magnum S9 and i keep getting reports that it sounds overmodulated. I think the limiter is cut. Id like to find it and put it back in. What do i need to look for in the radio?

find the mods on the radio to find out the limiter number example tr32 or dr 112these are not actual mods for your radio it will be listed on the green part of the board in white most likley it will be removed so you would have to get a new resistor and soldier it back in adjust your mic gain down and keep your moulth away from the mic when speaking if you havent done that already .You could take it to a tech.

Hi saskatoon, my name is John. Sounds like you have a mic. wire off the plug or loose.First try another mic. If its OK, then its the mic. Unscrew the mic plug from the radio, then remove the two(2) tiny screws at the end of plug, and one (1) tiny screw located about the middle of the plug, then carefully slide it backwards to expose the wiring, observe the wiring, if any wires are off, re solder them.........hope this was very helpful....

Hi! I have had Magnum S-9 for about 4 years. Recently when i key-up and talk for 30 seconds or more it will start to brake up, not sure if it's bad microphone or an internal problem. Thanks!

Just wondering have you tried a different mic to see if the Problem still is there. Let me know. If it goes away using a different mic its probably faulty wiring. If not sound like the Audio chip or transistor is at Fault. Best wishes to you.....................

Cant transmit

Hello Darren, Yes it sounds like the mic is wired bass ackwards,,! A cobra 25 mic wiring is
PIN #1- Shield or ground wire
PIN#2- Audio or Transmit modulation
PIN #3- Transmit or Dead Key
PIN #4- Receive Audio.
When your keying the mic, the RX wires are being connected to make the RX work,,,
*** Let me know how you get along with it. Either buy a new mic wired for your radio or you or someone comfortable with soldering needs to resolder the correct wires back on the mic plug,,,Like I said, let me know and have a great day,, Mechanic is back quiet!
