SOURCE: removal

The Presario 2100 is a laptop. Laptops don't have towers.

Refer to this manual, page 50:

SOURCE: forgot bios password on a compaq presario 2100. is

If you are familiar with dissembling and assembling laptops, that's not a big problem, since some laptops have bios battery attached. In this case just remove the Battery and wait for 5 mins and reinsert the battery then all then there'll no more problem with the password. Or if you can do this at this juncture, you can try this article http://www.pwcrack.com/bios.shtml Good luck.. If this helps, please let me know.

SOURCE: i don't have any cd's

You will have to restore all of your programs to there default value
Rather than doing them individually
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS you can load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults ,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
hope this helps

Just replaced my hdd on Compac Presario 2100 but the system is not detecting it.

This model laptop came with a 60Gb hard disk and if you installed a much larger capacity hard disk then the BIOS cannot detect this hard disk.
For the BIOS to detect a large hard disk a BIOS upgrade is required (if there is one available) Check the HP/Compaq WEB site to see if there is a BIOS upgrade.
If not the try a 120Gb or smaller capacity hard drive.
As an alternative -
You can keep the existing hard drive in your laptop and use an external USB hard drive to store your data.

Argon PXE Boot Agent v2.01 2002 - PXE - E61

Your computer tries to "boot" from several devices:
* floppy-disk
* disk-drive
* CD-ROM
* USB memory-stick
* over a network, via PXE (Pre eXecution Environment)

If you have a network-cable connected to the Ethernet port on the computer, with the other end connected to a "boot-server", then the Operating System can be loaded over this network-connection.

But, if you get "media test failure" and "check cable", then the network-cable for PXE is either non-working or not-present.

Any disk-drive that shows "ZERO" blocks is very probably a DEAD disk-drive. Replace it.

Laptop Boot Problem

It seems all Compaq laptops are infected by this problem. If you are sure that the AC port and the AC adapter is working? Can you hear the laptop trying to boot? ..e.g. Hard Drive spinning up, Floppy Disk Drive noise, etc.. if so ...Try hooking up a external monitor.. Does it smell like anything has burnt? (Call for service) Is there anything that sounds loose when you shake it? (Call for service or you can to open it?) Try booting your laptop from a bootable floppy if you have one. Or use Compaq's Recovery CD. But I doubt if you use recovery CD, you might lose data on your HDD. Which O.S. are you using? The Boot-up mechanism checks all the hardware before starting Windows. Some times floppy drive doesn't allow the laptop to boot further by either not responding or sending wrong signal.
