I have a WinTV HVR-1600 installed in my windows xp media center edition PC. It's recognized in device manager, I had WinTV installed and it worked with that, but when I try to set up TV signal in Media Center I get the message that no NTSC tuner is installed.
I made sure that the Windows Media Center Rollup 2 is installed, and have installed the Hauppauge MCE kit (which doesn't seem to install a driver, I had to use the original driver).
Okay, Media center does not work with some Wintv HVR's yet it will work with the software it came with and sometimes media center will use the wintv software to make it work but its sketchy. If you want a more media center compatiable card look at www.microsoft.com website they have a list of media center compatable Tv tuner cards, Trust me I am having the same problem with my tuner card now and its not wintv its a RCA and its under windows 7 this is just the thing here not all card work with media center.

I clearly stated SOME and was nnot ruling out your card for the fun of it. You might want to try a different slot as well these are known to have issues with IRQ's being on the same IRQ could cause this to error out like this

Clearly states its a driver issue and to check the manufacture for updated drivers if they do not have any you might have to upgrade your operating system and now would be a good time to go to windows 7 as they have more support with this type of issue, there was a list I rechecked I guess they took it down because there support for XP will be discontinued soon. I am trying to help you in whatever way I can here you need to find a updated driver for your version of XP now if the company does not have it consider on going to windows 7. Good luck please do click the accept button :)
wow glad you helped yourself by using the technique set forth. Windows 7 was a option not a requirement . So you went to there site and download a driver that was found to work that is did not work at first because you did not reboot came back in the morning and worked because you did reboot wow this was what you where instructed to do in my second paragraph to you but you choose to move on with using what was emailed to you with your own trial and error to get the thing working. Now lets hope you remember what you did or at least right it down so this does not happen again. I posted a microsoft solution you figured it out but since I gave the windows 7 advice I was not a help to you? That is fine enjoy your fix. Have a good time as evey thing I said to this point is true and would have worked as well.

I was told by your last expert that my Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1600 MCE Card does not work with Windows XP Media Center, when the hardware manufacturer specifically states that this card is made to work with it. I've read other forums where people got it to work, but can't get mine to be recognized.
I've tried putting in slot 1, 2 and 3. The problem with 1 is that it's right next to my AGP slot.
I recently formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. After reinstalling, I could not get my Win TV 250 MCE to work, so thought I'd upgrade to the HVR 1600 MCE. I don't think it's the card, I think it's something within Windows/Media Center since I only had the problem after reinstalling Windows.
You mentioned there is a list of media center approved tuner cards on microsoft's website, but I can't find it.
Not sure why I would click the accept button, you didn't help me at all. You told me nothing I hadn't already known or anything I hadn't already tried, but expected me to accept your solution of upgrading to Windows 7. That's not a solution, I can make this card work. In fact, I have.
Hauppage's driver for the HVR-1600 MCE on their support site didn't work, but their MCE driver for Win TV-PVR actually has a note indicating that it now works for a bunch of HVR cards, including the 1600. I installed that, it didn't work at first. I went to bed and when I woke up the next morning I restarted the computer again and it worked.
