Why not just fill the tank with vinegar & run it through as per the manufacturers instructions

  • cronje837 Dec 27, 2010

Yes, I use a 50/50 vinegar water mix which seems to work pretty well.

I buy descaler from restaurant supplies or janitorial supplies   they work on dairy equipment, coffee urns, steam irons, faucets, shower heads, sinks, toilets bathtubs, showers, water fountains etc.   place inside the water compartment and run as usual  it turns to near boiling but will go through the system  rinse several times by making pots of hot water and dispose of the water until you are sure it is safe to drink again   descaler will discolor chrome and other metals so use caution  CLR is a similar product for home users  just 10 times the price

Is it safe to descale with vinegar

Yes, but better if you get the descaler that comes in a small liquid bottle or powder you can get at restaurant supply houses, like united grocers. It is easy, safe and effective. Price is cheap for what it does and does not take much to use. Vinegar is ok, but might have some after taste if not rinsed good. Thanks Mr Bean from fixya.com

Can I use vinegar to descale my Breville single cup coffeemaker?

White wine vinegar is a great descaler as it can dissolve the white deposits. For kettles, fill them up and leave them overnight. Don't boil it, though - the vinegar will froth up and go everywhere. Afterwards, rinse the kettle thoroughly, fill with water and boil before using it again. Malt vineger can also be used as the malt only adds flavor
