There's no picture when I turn on my T.V. but the polwer light comeson. It is about nine years old. Any advice? The light that comes on says stand by timer. Thanks. It is a red light and blinks about six times then goes off, then starts blinking again.
I have same problem and just got a $950 quote from the SONY repair people to fix my tv. They want to change two boards (cost of almost $600 for the boards) - the rest is labour.
I spoke to the people at SONY - they coudn't give a darn about the problem - say that I had "enjoyment" of my set for six years and that should be good enough.
So, I'm out to buy a new TV, and it won't be a SONY! This is apparently a known issue for SONY, but they don't want to take responsibility.
Six blink shutdown is a common problem with this televion one of two switch mode ps ic have failed. The repair may cost somwhere around 150.00 to 200.00 to fix from a technician. If you want the specifics, i can provide them.

I would take it to a repair shop, they charge around $50 to look it over and will tell you want it would take to fix it. This is your best bet at this point if you want to keep it.
Bad grounds and bad caps will cause the problems in this tv. You will need to replace several caps and resolder the tuner itself and that means taking the tuner out in some cases and rework it. This is very time consuming and needs great care not to destroy the tuner. And reinstall the tuner to the board. You need the cap check to locate bad caps and visual to see bad grounds on any Ic on heatsinks. If you are a do it yourselfer fine.. If you cannot do this I would just replace the tv.
