The power coming into the fridge goes to the thermostat and when it's time for cooling the thermostat tells the compressor and other components to come on so it has to be the thermostat..Does the light insinde the fridge work? If so i would replace the thermostat and it should fix the problem!!!

Hello I have an HMCF7W1 Magic Chef freezer, after a power outage the power light comes on, but the Run light will not turn on and everything is thawed. What can I do?

Perhaps the power outage, was caused by your freezer?
When you think a reset would help, the run light should come on, after a little while. But perhaps only the thermostat is defect.
Be aware there can be so many causes, and none has to be related to the power outage, for your freezer not to work.
It would be virtually impossible to see what is wrong, from a distance. Better try to bring the food to a working fridge and call a tech to solve the problem.

Appears to run fine. but everything thawed. black canister at bottom (with coper wires from it) is hot to the touch. approx 3 years old

Compressor is supposed to be hot... your problem may be that the unit is stuck on defrost cycle... The defrost timer should be behind the kick panel and have a dial type adjustment on it.... find it and try to turn it just a touch. It may come on but you will need to replace it if it does

After a couple years of non-use, it started up but then quit and

The first thing to find out is what is running and what is not. If I am reading the specs on your unit right this is a frost free unit. There should be a fan inside behind the back wall.

Plug the freezer into a known good outlet and turn the dial up. If the fan comes on then go behind the freezer and down at the bottom is a compressor, you should be able to hear that running as it and fan should run together.

If they are running and no cooling takes place in 24 hours you have a problem in the sealed system, most likely the refrigerant has leaked out.

If nothing is running you have either:

- A bad thermostat, (the control behind the dial) It can be checked with an ohmmeter, with the power off and wires disconnected the meter should read 0 ohms when the dial is turned up

- A broken or chewed through wire (could be anywhere)

- A defrost timer that is stuck in defrost. It can be checked with an ohmmeter using a similar method as the thermostat.

Sorry this was not an easy answer

GE Freezer Not Freezing

I am not an expert, but if the defrost heater is not working, then maybe when it was unpluged the coils didn't completly unthaw. If not, the freezer still will not cool properly.

GIBSON DEEP FREEZE IS RUNNING BUT EVERYTHING IS THAWING OUT

Might try unplugging for a few hours and then plug it back in. There is a possibility that it slugged the compressor and there is a restriction in the line. Sometimes when the compressor fails to stop running in cold air the liquid gets back to the compressor. It can cause a bit of gunk to be picked up out of the oil and carried to the expansion line and plug up the line. Maybe turning it off will let the plug fall free and not replug the line. Worth a try anyway.....

Temp alarm going off and things are starting to thaw...

Check to see that the temp control is working (turning on the compressor). You also can have a bad start device on the compressor so it's not turning on reliably. Worst case is there is a leak and the refrigerant has leaked out and no longer cooling. If you can hear/feel the compressor running (should be warm/hot to touch) and you have no cooling then you have that sealed system problem (no refrigerant gas left)
