It is possible but lets work on your problems separately. First of all what is the make and model of your computer? Also what is the model of your brother printer as that may just require a driver. Lastly when you connect the devices does the computer recognize them at all? if it is recognized you can go to device manager and find out the exact issue my guess would be a driver issue at this point. Once I get some more information i can assist you further.
Thank you,
Lee
Hi,
No actually I didn't recieve the long comment. The fixya system sometimes makes comments disappear into nothing forever. Please post it again and I will be glad to assist you further.
Thanks again,
Lee
Yes I definitely believe it is some sort of USB driver issue. The reason you probably can't find the inf folder is because it is hidden. If you go to folder options you can change the settings so that you can view hidden files and folders. To do that just go to tools>folder options when you have the folder open. Also visit the HP website and make sure you have all the latest drivers from HP. Also you may want to consider a complete format and reinstall of windows. Another worst case scenario would be to buy a USB card and install it in your computer and that should get it to work. If you buy the card from best buy or a store comparable then you can return the usb card if it doesn't work if it does then you know its an onboard usb/driver issue. Hope this enough for you to go on if you have any other questions or need further assistance let me know.
Thank you,
Lee

Hello Lee,
My computer
is a HP Pavilion a 1112n, with XP Home Edition OS.
All or any updates/upgrades,
including HP, RealTeck (audio card) and Microsoft service packs and driver
updates from “Driver Robot” (they were stumped, too!) All these have been installed in the last 3 weeks. I have tried all of these “solutions”, and
nothing has solved the problem with installing the Xitel software.
When the Xitel begins to install,
the device manager indicates a yellow “?” question mark, and of course, will
not update the driver any further. I
have also repeatedly install and uninstalled the program, with the same
outcome. We have two other computers in
the house which are using the device successfully :o)I. My
wife’s computer is HP as well, with XP home edition. My son’s computer is a Lenovo laptop, with
Vistas OS. I have noted that when both
systems load the Xitel software, a composite USB driver pops up to show the installation
of the device.
Finally with regard to the Xitel
device, in the Users Manual, in trouble shooting guide, it states that “the
Xitel Unit does not need special
device driver to operate, but it does
need the following generic Microsoft files to be on your system: “C:\windows\inf\usb.inf” and “C:\windows\inf\wdma_usb.inf”
that are loaded from C:\windows\inf\folder”.
When I do a search
in my system, I cannot find C:\windows\inf\folder.
My printer is a Brother MFC-685CW,
which is printer, fax and copier (all in one).
It is wireless or USB driven. Unfortunately, even after talking to
Brother technical support, I was never able to install the printer as a USB
functional printer. In the end, and after going through installation and
looking in the devise manager, we discovered that the computer’s device manager
was missing a mass storage device driver and a USB composite driver.
I suspect that
both system issues are related to this somehow.
What are
your thoughts? Please RSVP Steve
Hey Lee,
I suppose reloading windows is the next thing to try. Thanks for the help!
Take care,
Steve
I hope so. Until I reload windows the solution has yet to be revealed.
Thanks!!!
