I replaced the WBX20154 glowbar for my oven as

I replaced the WBX20154 glowbar for my GE oven as directed, but now the ignitor doesnt light at all (the old one lit dimly, but I switched back to the old one and it doesnt work either). I carefully checked the wiring and it seems fine....not sure what is going on. (I hear the relay click on when I turn the oven on, but nothing happens at the ignitor). I am pretty sure that I didnt harm the ignitor during installation either!

I cant find the oven model number (I looked everywhere for a plate and cant find one). Sorry about the typo on the ignitor - the right # is WB2X9154.

  • richcisek Nov 05, 2009

I thought about the gas valve being bad...but it works for the broiler (and it was just working fine with the old ignitor). It just seems odd that it failed when I was swapping out the ignitor!

I tried the ignitor in the wall - good idea! That worked fine. You are right about the round ignitor (and the replacement is the same). However, when I wired the thing back up - still nothing. I carefully checked the connections...so that probably means that the oven valve is bad (although it seams weird that it would break at the same time I changed the ignitor). I found the oven # - JGBP28SEJ1SS.

Could you post your complete model number and check that part number?

The model number on a built in oven is usually found on the oven frame, just behind the oven door. (should be a metal tag, or silver sticker) It is NOT LIKELY that the oven valve is bad. (although if you have a self clean model, they would have seperate valves for bake and broil)
When the oven is turned on, there should be 120 volts across the ignitor. You can test the igniter by putting one wire into the left side and one into the right side of a standard recepticle, but you have to be careful with bare wires and the ignitor gets hot very quickly, and stays hot for awhile, so if you try it, be very careful. I'm assuming that your original ignitor was a round one also (not a flat one). It is very important to use the same type as the original.
I suspect you have a poor electical connection. Make sure wires are stripped back about 1/2 inch, then make sure the ceramic wire nuts are tight when installed.

Oven valve (WB19K10014) is rarely the problem. My bet would be that the electrical contacts inside the relay are bad, requiring replacement of the WB27K10219 control. The only way to tell for sure without just buying parts and trying is to use a meter and the electrical diagram to see if the control is sending 120 volts to the ignitor.

As I said before, the gas valve coil is bad, change it.

Oven not coming on correctly or up to temp setting

The most common problem is a bad oven glowbar ignitor.
The part number is 5303935066.
Remove the oven racks and the oven base pan to access the ignitor for replacement.

SF 3000 EWWO how to light pilot

You can raise the top lid of the stove to light the pilot lights for the top burners.
The oven is controlled by a electric glowbar ignitor.
Make sure the cord is plugged into a electrical outlet.
If it is and the oven does not work the glowbar ignitor must be replaced.

Hello when i put my temp for my gas stove on say 350, the pilot is glowing but it doesnt seem to flame/heat up, and i get a somewhat odor of gas, could the therometer need replacing or maybe the ignition...

Your glowbar ignitor part must be replaced, Unplug the range and turn off the gas. Remove yje oven racks, The oven base pan. Then remove the flame spreader. You will see the glowbar ignitor attached to the side of the bake burner. Remove it and replace it with a new ignitor. Replace all the range parts.Turn on the power and turn on the gas supply.

Copy and paste this site for the location of the ignitor you can also purchase the part from them.

The oven burner will not ignite.

Because the glowbar is glowing does not necessarily make it good.
Turn off the gas to the stove. Remove the oven racks. Remove the bottom oven pan. Remove the flame spreader. This gives you access to the glow bar and gas valve.
Put a clamp on amp meter around one wire of the glowbar. Turn the oven control on to BAKE.
If the glowbar reads 3 amps or less, replace the glowbar ignitor.
If the glowbar reads good, check the burner tube for a white ash buildup. It can be cleaned with a wire brush. Look closely near the glowbar section of the burner.
Check all the wire connections for the gas valve.
If the glowbar is good and the ash deposits are gone and the oven still will not ignite, the next step is to replace the gas safety valve.

The ignitor is working but it is not heating up?

The ignitor could be glowing and still be bad. You will have to remove the oven racks and the base cover in the oven to access the ignitor. Place a clamp on amp meter over one wire of the ignitor and turn the oven on. If the meter reads 3 amps or less, replace the glowbar ignitor.

On my gas kenmore oven, the oven first wouldn't get up to temperature, and now 3 months later it just doesn't heat at all. There is no gas smell or indication that there is a pilot light. My gas broiler...

Replace the glowbar ignitor in the oven. Turn off the gas supply. Remove the oven racks. Remove the base pan in the oven to access the ignitor. Most plug in. Some have wire nuts.
Your local appliance parts store will need the model number or the ignitor for a correct replacement.

Oven wont light

Check the amp draw on the ignitor. If 2.9 amps or less, replace the ignitor. If 2.9 amps or more, replace the gas safety valve.
