You can try with emergency recovery mode. THIS WILL WIPE OUT ALL DATA ON YOUR IPOD, so be *really* sure you have a current backup on the iTunes installation on the computer!
- ensure the computer is connected to the Internet.
- disconnect the iPod from the computer
- while disconnected, power completely off the iPod (off button + slide slider + wait until it turns off)
- press and keep pressed the main round button, and while keeping it pressed, connect the USB cable.
- after a few seconds, a Master Connect popup will appear prompting for iTunes. At that point, release the round button. If the popup doesn't appear, retry from start. It HAS to work - or the device is too far gone to do anything except send it in for repair (unlikely, unless you hit it with a taser stun).
- iTunes will prompt you to confirm complete erasure of the iPod.
- Choose the backup to restore from, or "setup as new" to start with an empty iPod.
If this doesn't work, you need to contact Apple Support.
Press the sleep/wake button and the home button (one is on the top left edge and the other is in the centre/bottom of the face) at the same time until it re-boots, then use the restore facility via iTunes.
Uninstall Itunes completely and re-download the newest version from Apple. Install Itunes latest version.
If your iPod touch is password locked, the only way to get past it is
to force the unit into restore mode by doing the following:
1. Plug the iPod touch in to your computer.
2. Hold the sleep/wake button and the menu button down at the same
time. Keep them both pressed until you see the 'restore' screen (an
iPod cable and an iTunes disc symbol) on the iPod touch. Release the
buttons.
3. iTunes should now display the iPod touch, along with a message that
the iPod touch is in recovery mode. Click the RESTORE button in iTunes
to restore the iPod touch.
Please note that doing this will erase the contents of the iPod touch
-- that's how the system is designed to work: a passcode lock is meant
to protect the data on the iPod.
If this does not work download Ibrickr http://www.soft82.com/download/windows/ibrickr/
and install it. Put Ipod touch into recovery mode using step 2 listed above, plug into cable and put in USB port on computer and run IBRICKR.
If all else fails you can jailbreak the ipod touch. http://www.ipodtouchmaster.com/
Once it is jailbroken, you can restore it with Itunes.
I hope this helps and good luck!
Have you been using the same USB port on the computer? If so try another. Secondly, I know you have tried some of the solutions I cited, but sometimes (no one knows why) it seems to work with more than a few attempts at the same fix. Next, are you able to get the ipod touch into restore mode? Do it while it is disconnected from the USB wire and computer (on it's own).Hold the sleep/wake button and menu button together (should take about 20 seconds). Does the ipod take a charge from either AC or Computer? Don't get frustrated I'm trying to help. I know it sucks, but hang in there.

Hi.
Please try again restoring y from iTunes:
If the Ipod is detected by computer this will fix the problem.
If Ipod is not detected:
If still no luck, try holding the sleep button on the top of Ipod until you get "slide to power off" on display, the IPod will go off.Launch iTunes and while holding the Home button (keep holding it) plug the iPod USB into the computer.
Itunes should ask to restore the Ipod to factory.
Regards.
Hi!
try both of these:
conect to itunes
press sleep and home at the same time
hold till it shuts off, but do not let go of the buttons.
the ipod should turn back on while the buttons r still held
when this happens, only let go of the sleep button on the top
keep the home held in till the ipod shows the itunes lodo plus usb cord.
this is as far as i have gotten right now. download the update and see if it works.
or this...
1: go to tunes
2:plug your ipod touch
3:press the top and bottom button at the same time for like 13 seconds.
3:once the apple logo comes on twice on your ipod screen let go and only
press the botton button like for 10 seconds again the the new logo on
the ipod screen will com on this logo is the same *** wen u bought the
ipod
4: the itune will ask you to restore the ipod to the original set up and the wait for the download it takes about 30 to 20 min.
Unfortunately, you will lose all the files saved on yur itouch. Hope this helps!

I tried both of those twice. It still always comes back to the red disabled screen, and Itunes screen pops up saying "Itunes could not connect to ipod because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the ipod before it can be used with itunes." I get the white apple, I hear it connecting with the "du da", then it pops up a little screen on itunes saying above. and the ipod gives a little buzz noise and then displays the red disabled screen.
I dont know if you got this, but it isnt showing up as sent from b4, so ill send it again...
I tried both suggestions twice, (actually for several hours, this is the same as from Apple website) I see the white apple, but it always comes back up in itunes with this message "Itunes could not connect to the ipod because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the ipod before it can be used wth itunes." I hear the sync the "du da" then it opens up that message on itunes and the ipod buzzes and the red disabled screen comes up.
I have already tried pressing home and top buttons together, starting it up and after shows white apple lift top finger holding home button. When not using itunes, apple comes on for 4 seconds then goes off, then comes back on, then goes off. I have held thsi for 20 minutes, but never does it restore. When I use Itunes, I never get the USB picture, I automatically get the red disabled screen again.
I tried 2 of them, and it still comes up to the red disabled screen and gives me the sam message as I said b4. As for the 3rd, I do not have a list to choose the ipod from. I downloaded Itunes from the site. On my L side I have library and below that itunes store. But I do not see a list to choose the itouch from. Even in file the sync ipon is in a low gray color, and i am not able to click it. Other than that I do not know where to find a list.
I tried the 2nd and 3rd, no success, always comes back up to red disabled screen and I get the same message as before. I do not see any list on my itunes screen to select the ipod, but I dont think it is letting it sync all the way, it shows me the message about the passcode and I cant go any further.
This IS THE PROBLEM, I can not get the itouch to show up on itunes. It gives the message "could not connect to itunes because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter the passcode on the ipod before you can use itunes. The screen is red disabled, so I can not enter a passcode. I have already tried to restore it using the Apple website, and through itunes. It will not go any further than the above message. If I install jailbreak, I cant even select the itouch because it is not listed.
OK, I am asking again for the 5th time. Please read this entirely, I am getting frustrated. I have a ipod that will not go into recovery mode. I have tried for 4 hours last night and have again tried again every time (4times) you all have answered my post. It simply will not go any further thatn the screen that pops up after I press home and top button. It turns on and goes immediatly to the red disabled screen. It will NOT show the recovery screen. I can not install jail break and select the itouch from the itunes screen, the itouch does not get recognized, it goes no further than the message I have posted 3 times now.. says, I have to put in passcode to get itunes to work, I can not put in passcode, the screen is disabled. I don't mean to sound hostile, but I paid money for this, and I keep getting the same answer, (to push and old buttons and it will come up in descovery mode, but it doesnt. it doesnt seem that anyone is actually reading my actual problem. What more after this???
