Video on game and dvd seem to work

Onkyo TX-SR605.

Here's the setup:

HDMI out to projector seems to work great.

DVD/VCR combo connected with composite video.
DVD player connected with composite video
Old nintendo game controller connected with composite video

The DVD/VCR combo thingie works just fine. Plays both tapes and dvd's. both sound and video work great.

the DVD player plays sound, but no video.

Same for the game console. sound but no video.

I have the settings for each of the 'inputs' set at '- - -' which is what the instructions say to do.

Strangely, if I connect video from the dvd player to the SAT/CBL inputs it works! If I put the nintendo on the SAT/CBL, I get the sound again, but no video.

very weird to me.

I'll second what dennisae said. I've got a TX-NR708 that had all sorts of video issues after about 6 months of use until I got the HDMI board replaced. This seems to be an issue with this brand over a wide number of models.

I have a Onkyo SR605. When I play a video via the DVD the screen splits and is very unstable. I have swapped DVD's so I am relatively certain that the problem is in the receiver.

I would try a new HDMI cable that has the gold plated ends for higher resolutions. Some of the older non-plated HDMI cables seem to have difficulty with higher res DVD's. This is applicable especially to Blu-rays vs plain DVD's.

Unable to connect a blu ray dvd player to onkyo tx-sr605 via hdmi

Not sure what unable to connect means..but I will assume you have the correct cable.

First make sure you have plugged the from the HDMI cable from the DVD play into the IN 1 HDMI port on the back of your Onkyo

On the Receiver
Enter the Setup mode
Select INPUT OUTPUT ASSIGN
Next make sure the HDMI monitor out is set to YES on the Receiver
Monitor out
HDMI Monitor - YES

Next you need to assign the HDMI INPUT to DVD
Select INPUT OUTPUT ASSIGN
HDMI INPUT
DVD - IN1
CBL/SAT - IN2

This may be your issue.

Next step would be to verify your television input settings.

Nice receiver!

Best of luck!

Onkyo TX-SR604 provides audio thru receiver but no video on Bravia LCD when satellite receiver signal is sent thru any of the Onkyo HDMI connections to tv, however if I connect up my Samsung DVD recorder...

easiest fix is to take all hdmi straight to tv. then come out of tv with optical cable to your receiver. that way what ever your watching will automatically be sent to the receiver thru optical. you even will get dolby dig. also you can have audio from your tv when you dont want to use your surround. keeps receiver on one input also.

Sound goes in and out

First thing you need to try is outputting from the projector with a different audio source. either composite or digital coaxial, etc depending on what the projector has. First thing is to make sure its not the HDMI on the projector.

New home theater setup- no signal at tv using onkyo tx=sr605

Could well be the quality of your cables. if you have high end cables the consult a service agent. if you have the cables that came with the products, go and get some better ones.
