I have an old Presario 5000 series PC, hard disk crashed, bought a new hard disk and tried to use the Quick Restore CD's to Restore to Factory settings. Can't seem to boot up from Disc 1 of the Quick Restore CD. ANy advice? Thanks!

I guess not. Drivers for compaq presario 5000/8000, are not the same as those for a compaq presario 2175us laptop. Now, actually that "notebook" looks to me rather outdated. You won't lose anything by trying. Worst case, format hard drive and install Windows XP SP3. Try to search internet for missing drivers.

You first find a Windows installation disk valid for the licence sticker on computer, then download drivers from HP website.

Malwarebytes will kill the worm. It's the best I've ever worked with, never failed. It's free to download, then download and click run. Update it before you scan your computer. (very simple from the update tab once it's installed)

But to answer your original question, you can format your hard drive from the repair disk, then reinstall windows and you will be worm free. Brand new with none of your old files, but worm free.

I always recommend cleaning instead.

that clicking is more than liekly your hard drive and there is nothing you can do to prevent it from failing, back your data up and consider migrating to a new computer or ghosting your hard drive. BACK UP YOUR DATA. once it crashes that disk will be nearly inaccessible.

It appears that the hard disk drive is not being seen in the Bios. Ensure that both the power and data cables are connected to the drive and the controller. try booting again.

Call the manufacture and see if they would be willing to send you a restore disk. Also not a cheap way but you could by new windows xp and re-install it. System restore could get you pretty far back but it doesn't allow you to re do the whole hard drive. What is the operating system?

Buy a new computer, with Windows 8, to replace your old 'XP' system.

What operating system you are using before installing windows xp. If it is windows 98, Your restore cd will restore windows 98. if you want to restore to factory settings pls boot from the restore cd and format the harddisk. Becareful, this will erase your entire data on the harddisk which cannot be recover. If you are using licenced (not pirated) windows xp boot from it and reinstall windows xp so that you can run the os smoothly. But in either case becarefull when you are formating, it will destroy entire data and you may endup in soup. feel free to revert back for further quiries
