Acer One 8.9 Netbook microphone doesn't work.

have you tested the microphone with another application like windows sound recorder? if not i recommend you try that and verify the microphone is functioning. if it is then go into yahoo chat and check your options and verify you have the correct sound device selected for voice input.

Click start button, then control panel, click hardware and sound, click sound (3rd down), then recording tab.

There is a fix.

Do This: Install the driver that is on the Acer FTP site. Don't worry that there is a newer version out on the Realtek site, just install the Acer version. It will work then.

go to device manager and check if driver installed ok, also try to use external microphone, also go to sound panel and check to make sure microphone is not muted. hope this helps

Since you are unable to adjust the settings, it looks like you have a corrupted drivers. reinstall the drivers. use the following URL to download the audio drivers

Sounds like a problem with the mainboard. Both of those jacks are attached directly to the mainboard. Anyhow, try doing a windows system restore to a day or two before the problem started. This will help to eliminate any software/config issues. If still no good, your best option is likely a PCMCIA (slot card) sound card. This will allow you to connect speakers and a microphone for probably less than 50 dollars. Let me know what happens.

Hi Katie, have you checked your device manager, located in control panel folder/system/hardware? See if there is an issue like missing drivers for your sound controllers

This is not a problem with mic. Settings in System was changed so that mic has been muted. To enable goto contol pannel and Select Sound & Devices and Select Advanced in Device Volume there you will get Master Volume Settings Menu So that uncheck the Mic option and check for Mic Setting in that.
