This is usually caused by a defective CCD image sensor and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it’s not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician. My name is Rick and I’m a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I’m semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs. Though 8mm filming was and still is the best safest way to make movies Sony have stopped producing 8mm tapes, I use the brand new Digital 8 tapes on my brand new Sony camera, would never dream of going over to Hard drive/SD card/DVD recording cameras as the image will not last as long as it will on 8mm tape. Also the 8mm cameras are much better made than anything since 2006. If you type 8mm movie tapes in your search engine you will find 100's of firms still selling your tapes, they will help you choose the right one ok?
is it able to record audio? are you able to see the indicators on the lcd screen? are you able to playback previous tapes with recording...if you say yes to all of the questions, there is no doubt that you dont have an issue with the lcd screen. the issue that your having is with the ccd imaging sensor. sony has a recall program for this specific model yrs back, unfortunately its already been discontinued and if you send it to them,it will be treated as an out-of-warranty repair.
Couple of questions, Is it Sony DCR-TRV22 camcorder? please confirm model number. Can you see fine and clear picture in playback of old recorded tapes in camcorder? Let me know info to proceed. Thanks.
