Cloning Procedure:
(The content of radio A is to be duplicated into radio B)
1. Turn off radio A and turn on radio B.
2. Connect the cloning cable (NKN6376A) to the Universal Connector of both radio A and radio B.
3. Place the PL switch on radio A to the carrier squelch position for full cloning, or the PL position for partial cloning. Full cloning will duplicate the content of radio A to radio B, except for the deviation and squelch settings. Partial cloning is recommended due to deviation variations from radio to radio. (Later version MT1000's (B model for 6, 16, and 99 channel portables; A model for 8 channel) have partial cloning.)
4. Simultaneously depress the PTT and Monitor button on radio A and hold.
5. Turn on radio A. The green LED turns off. Release the PTT and the Monitor button on radio A (HT600's and older MT1000's (A model for 16 and 99 channel portables) beep when cloning is complete). Turn radios "off and on" to reset.
6. Cloning is complete once the green LED turns off. Release both the PTT and Monitor button on radio A. Turn radio A off and on to reset.

NOTE:
For MDC front covers (NTN5456, NTN5457, NTN5458, NTN5459, and NTN6009B), make sure that radio B is turned on before it is connected to the cloning cable.

NOTE:
All VHF wideband radios (146-174MHz) are "C" model radios. A "C" model radio can be cloned only to/from another "C" model radio. An attempt to clone a "C" model radio to an "A" or "B" model radio will result in an unsuccessful cloning attempt.
Any unsuccessful cloning attempt (depending on operating condition of the radio) will result in one of the following alerts:
1. in receive (rotary radio) - 1600Hz continuous alert tone
2. in receive (display radios) - 88 displayed on LCD
3. in transmit - 1600Hz beeping alert tone

Clone Motorola BPR40 with PMDN4060AR, but I'm getting a low continual tone from the slave radio from Ch 2 above

Even with a cloning cable, you cannot always clone. The source radio and receiving radio must (1) be the same exact model, (2) have cloning enabled in the software a dealer used when they were programmed the first time. It sounds like you are doing the correct procedure.

I have a pro 23 hand held scanner it scan but I only pick to weather channel. Thanks, George

You will need to program in your local channels - ANALOG ONLY will work, not Digital. I suggest you go to "Radio Refererence DOT com" and go to their database; select your state, then your county, and it will list many frequencies for you to program to your radio. Also, SOME, not many, but SOME, Radio Shacks actually have a ham radio guy working there that can help you program your radio or help you 'CLONE' it from another identical radio. Good luck, and let me know how it goes. Happy New Year my friend.

I have a pro 97 hand held cant get it out of clone mode

Your scanner is designed to automatically enter CLONE mode when a cloning cable is attached, and to exit CLONE mode when the cable is disconnected. If you do not currently have a cable connected, you will need to INITIALIZE your scanner to return it to normal operation. NOTE: Initializing the scanner will erase/delete all programmed data and return the scanner to its original factory settings. Before starting this procedure, be sure that you have a record of all programming information so that you can reprogram your scanner.

To INITIALIZE the PRO-97:

1. Turn the scanner OFF.
2. Turn the scanner ON. "Multi-system Trunking Scanner" appears.
3. Press the 0 (zero) key while "Multi-system Trunking Scanner" appears.
4. Press the 1 (one) key.
5. Press the ENT key. "Initializing please stand by" appears on the display for about five seconds.

Do not turn the scanner OFF until the initialization process is complete. When it is complete "M000" will appear on the top line of the display, and "Bank 0 Ch 00" will appear on the third line of the display.

Once the process is complete you can begin to reprogram the scanner.

I am trying to program my motorola mt1000 radio but I am getting a error message " SERIAL BUS ACCESS ERROR 004" I need help

This error message means that there is software/hardware problem. It can be that you have not programmed it in the right way. So, an error occurred while you were programming it. It's better to reset the unit.

After reading programming Radio Died

Unfortunately you have a corrupted code plug. The radio will need to be serviced to clear the corruption. Or if you have a clean copy of the original programming, you can try reprogramming it. (Note: Do not use the version you had saved which led to the corruption.)

Programming problem

Are you using a RIB-less cable, or using a RIB (Radio Interface Box)? This error appears to have more to do with hardware than software or radio.

Cloning
These radios support cloning parameters between a master and slave radio.
Cloning only transfers the user's settings from the master radio to the slave. Things like tuning values, serial number, etc. are not changed.
To clone a master radio to a slave (target), perform the following:
    • Make sure both radios are off
    • Connect the cloning cable between the two radios through the programming port
    • Turn on the slave radio
    • Press and hold the "A" button on the master radio and turn it on
    • The master radio will display CLONE if cloning can proceed, otherwise an error will be displayed
    • The slave radio will display PROG while it is being programmed
    • When cloning is complete, the master radio will display END and the slave radio will reset automatically
    • Disconnect the radios from the cloning cable
