We changed the battery - now the watch reads "open". We think that something needs to be jumpered but we don't know what. We've tried various combinations and got "Saturday" (but doesn't keep time) ... "12 am" but doesn't keep time ... goes back to "OPEN"
There is a plastic outfit that comes under the cover and it has a small pin that need to press a switch in the watch that indicates the cover is not tight. check all parts been assembled corrctly specially you need to see that small plastic pin going into the right hole.
Ok, I had the same problem and I had another one that was the same model. So I opened it very carefully and slowly just to see if anything fell out as I was opening it. It just so happens that there are 4 extremely small springs at all four corners under the white plastic cover that goes over the battery. You will see this plastic plate right after removing the metal back cover. If you're not careful removing the backplate, then the plastic cover that comes next then the springs will pop out and because they're so tiny you will loose them easily. Without these springs in place when you put the watch back together it will keep reading (OPEN). When I found the springs for the first watch and put them back in place, the watch worked just right and I've had no problems with it since then. So you must be careful when taking it apart, and make sure that all pieces are there and correctly in place when putting it back together. I hope this helps everyone that reads it.

I think it said in the manual that you had to use metal tweezers to reset the thing. Check the manual again under the changing battery section.
