Terrible smell coming from our washing machine

Whenever we open the door to the washing machine there is a dreadful smell coming from the drum.
I have to keep the door closed between washes (the dog chewed the rubber seal on the last machine) but I always dry round the seal and the drum after every wash. I do at least one wash every day so I don't understand why there is this smell every time.
Have tried Washing Machine Cleaning product but didn't make any difference

Remove bottom cover at back of machine, loosen large jubilee clip on hose between drum and pump. pull hose down and off, take out strainer basket and pull top off, clean top, ball and basket by running under tap. clean out hose with an old rag. reassemble strainer and put back into hose, in the correct position. fix hose back on to drum and tighten clip. run machine on a hot wash and all should be fine.

Why is there a damp smell when I open the door?

Front load washing machines have to be hermetically sealed so they don't leak. Of course opposite of their top-loader cousins. :) In your case, Try cleaning the drum and the door seal and also remove any and all soap residue that you can find. Then try running an empty load with vinegar and/or Borax. You can try bleach, too if that doesn't work. When it's all clean and smells 'normal' again, be sure and keep the door cracked open when you're done using it from now on. Being closed and sealed all the time is why mold and mildew have grown, causing it to smell bad. I hope this helps! :) -Jason

I can't remove the detergent drawer from the washing machine.

After you are finished with the wash, leave the door open. Seriously.. you NEED to leave the door open so it can air out after each wash. Just a crack will do, if you close the door and seal it, bacteria will grow and make a bad smell. Your laundry room will smell bad for awhile at first but it'll clear out after several days. If you can't stand the smell, buy a kit in the soap isle that eliminates washer odor. Remember the kit is a temp solution, leaving the door open after using the washing machine is the real fix.

I have a front loader that smells like something died in it. I have tried affresh bleach Tide washer cleaner Basic G leaving the door open cleaning the gasket washing the drum cleaning the filter and hoses...

you can open the filter drainage under near the drain hose. there may be something that comes into the washer drum and died leaving a smell. how to open the filter is rotated and pulled out only. then you try to drain the washing machine how to turn it. will allow water or sewage, which is in the drum filter out of the hole. and do not forget to clean the exhaust filter the water, there will be a lot of dirt.

Strange smell coming out of Maytag Neptune MAH8700AWW

This is joyce
I am assuming that the smell is mold that is what happens in these units, the door gets closed and they capture the moisture inside and it molds around the door and in the dispenser, you have to run about 1 cup of bleach a month in them to keep them clean and in the dispenser you have to spray them with pure bleach with a spray bottle and take tooth brush and scrub the top to remove mold or it will take over. make sure their are no clothes in waher whenn you run this cycle.
this should solve this problem,
please let me know if this works, it did on mine
thanks

Terrible smell in washing machine

I used white vinegar in the machine and did a full wash.
I am subsequently not using a softener in the machine as I have found out that this is what caused the smell.
I now use white vinegar instead of softener and this has solved the problem.

Terrible Smell

most of the time this smell can be taken care of by adding white vinager to the wash cycle through the soap dispenser whil e it is running. you may have to use quite a bit to do the trick, and even run it through several times. the second thing you can do is if you arent already, leave the door ajar when the machine is not in use so it can breath so to speak. hope this helps
